Places of the World

What is the most well-know and visited painting in the world? Most people would guess the Mona Lisa, housed in Paris's Louvre Museum. What many people would not guess, is how at 30 in x 21 in, this painting is one of the smallest paintings in its gallery.

But that does not stop the crowds. The Louvre Museum sees approximately 9.3 million visitors a year and of these visitors, it is believed that 80% only come to see that painting among 70,000 other pieces of art. Insurance on this painting was estimated to cost $100 million which is now spent on security measures for this painting, appearing below in a bulletproof glass case.
