This tour is for all MJ1 and LDF 8th graders and their parents, and will be a time to pick up high school registration paperwork, ask questions, attend a general orientation, and go on department tours. If you are unable to attend on the 25th, you are welcome to attend the transition with AVW and North Lakeland students on March 4 instead.
A transition timeline containing all essential event dates and times was sent home with your 8th grade student earlier in the year. If you would like another copy of transition events or have any questions, please contact Stephanie O’Brien, sobrien@mhlt.org (715) 356-5206, ext. 2157.

8th Grade Super Art Trip
The Super Art Trip is coming up! The Super Art Trip is an overnight trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 25-26. This trip is for any serious artist in 8th grade. On the trip they will visit multiple art museums, experience performing arts, and learn about new arts and cultures. This amazing opportunity is open to ANY 8th grade student, but they must apply. Applications are available outside of the art room and are due to Miss Christianson no later than Monday, March 25. Students must answer the application questions typed on a separate piece of paper and make an art project that incorporates and presents their answers and desire to attend. Please see Miss Christianson with any questions or clarifications.
Youth Risk Behavior Survey
Minocqua J1 middle school is taking part in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction. Students in grades 6-8 will be asked about health behaviors - both positive and negative. These surveys are anonymous questionnaires that take about 25-35 minutes to complete. Surveys will be taken during class time, and have been designed to protect your child’s privacy. The classroom setting will be set up like a test so that students’ answers remain private. The school will not have access to individual students’ answers and no names will be mentioned in a report of the results.
The survey is voluntary. No action will be taken against you, or your child, if your child does not take part. Some students may be sensitive to certain questions, and can skip any question that they do not wish to answer. In addition, students may stop participating in the survey at any point without penalty.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please fill out the form here and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher or to the front office by Wednesday, February 27. Teachers also gave students this form today and asked them to give it to their parents. Signing and returning this form will dismiss your child from taking the survey.
