Happy Winter Break!
Read. Relax. Savor the results you are inspiring.
For all you do...
- to find just the right book for even the most reluctant of readers:
- to encourage the child who doesn't believe in the power of books to think differently:
- to make your role vital to the health and appeal of your school:
- to offer a smile and a gentle word when a child has lost or damaged a book:
- to showcase myriad ways to ask questions and research to reach answers:
- to inspire readers:
Thank you!
Fun facts about this first semester:
Books, books and more books! Thousands upon thousands of new books have been processed by the amazing cataloging team of Kate, Amy, Alisa and Len down here at Acoma. Every mill levy order - all 160 or so across the district - came in pretty much on time. Take a look below at the Great White Wall of Follett boxes, waiting to be processed!
Destiny circulation is up - WAY up! So far this year, you fine people throughout the district have checked out 337,692 books - up more than 48,000 books over the same period last year!
OverDrive circulation is also seeing significant increases. So far this year, the DPS community has checked out just under 100,000 titles from OverDrive, up by almost 34,000 titles over the same period last year. People, that's the sweet sound of brains being fed!
Each month, Library Services has been curating special collections that appear in the first 'ribbon' on the OverDrive home page. Just this week, we changed it to 'Build it! Create it! Craft it!' to help inspire that creativity when Winter Break Cabin Fever takes hold. Already, we see many of these titles being checked out. Thank you for teaching your students how to access OverDrive and for giving them time to browse all the special collections (28 special collections and counting. Our newest is 'Black Boy Fly').
Last month, when we showcased 'Books to Make You LOL,' an astonishing 187 holds were put on one very popular joke book. Thanks for all your patience if you were asked endless knock-knock jokes...
So far this school year, 19 schools have undergone the painful-but-necessary process of weeding their collection. Weeded collections become younger by about 3-4 years, and while the size of the collection shrink, circulation increases. If you've been weeded or are on the schedule, thank you for embracing this process.
What amazing things have happened in YOUR building? Our guess is the list is long and mighty. Celebrate your efforts. Recognize the differences your enthusiasm brings to your students every single day. You have the power to change lives - and from our seat on the bus, it's clear you are not afraid to use it!
Happy holidays.
