REPORT CARDS
This week students will bring home report cards for the 2nd trimester. Please review these with your child and celebrate growth, hard work, and perseverance. Set goals for the rest of the year and talk about ways that you will work together to support learning. Contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or if you would like additional information about how to help your child.
The report card indicators are directly aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards to ensure that your child is receiving a rigorous education. For each trimester, teachers use specific rubrics to provide student ratings. Each trimester, the rigor of the rubrics increases, with the indicators in Trimester 3 mirroring the end of year expectations found in the Illinois Learning Standards. This is an objective process that allows students to achieve success over the course of each trimester and the whole school year.
Growth in reading and math is monitored through the year with regular assessments that inform instruction. These include regular reading level measures and math chapter tests. Winter MAP scores were shared with you at conferences. In early April our 3rd - 5th graders will take state assessments. Again, if you have questions about your child's growth, please reach out for more information.

OWNERSHIP - CHARACTER FOCUS FOR MARCH
When we talk about students owning their learning, the expectation is for each student to accept responsibility for his/her developing skills, focus on instruction, maintain motivation, and participate fully. In the classroom we provide opportunities for leadership and choice. Students are given feedback and are encouraged to reflect on their progress. Goal setting is an important part of taking responsibility. Students are active learners who ask questions and apply what they are learning.
