Medlock Bridge Mustang Message
We educate and inspire all students to be lifelong learners!
From the Principal's Desk
Medlock Bridge Community,
It is a marvelous time to be a Mustang! From our 2nd Grade Performance a few nights ago to Red Ribbon Week this week and our Canned Food Drive the next week, there are always wonderful events in store for our students! Please see a few important reminders below. On a personal note, I am still on paternity leave and will return to you all on November 5th. Have a great week!
IOWA Testing
Medlock Bridge Community,
IOWA Tesing (formerly known as ITBS) begins Monday, October 22nd for 3rd grade students and Monday, October 29th for 5th grade students. The full schedule is pictured below and linked here. Please contact Ingrid Parham at ParhamI@fultonschools.org with any questions.
CCRPI Scores
Our College Career Readiness Performance index (CCRPI) score will be publicized before the end of the month. CCRPI is a comprehensive metric that is used for accountability and communication of student achievement. Most of the score is based on our participation and performance in the Georgia Milestones (GMAS) assessment. As previously communicated, we are very happy with our Georgia Milestones performance in 2017-18 (see below) and we expect our CCPRI score will reflect this strong performance. Last year, we earned a 93.9 and were distinguished as an ‘A’ school by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. This year, the rules for computing CCRPI have changed significantly, making it more challenging to generate a high score for our school. The new rules remove many opportunities to earn extra credit points for special programs. They also put more emphasis on student growth (35%) than their overall student achievement (30%) and raised the bar for schools to demonstrate that they are closing achievement gaps in subgroups. If these new rules were in place last year, our 93.9 score would have been an 86.6. While we remain hopeful that the new rules will continue to recognize the outstanding work happening at our school, we are anticipating that our CCPRI score might drop below last year’s 93.9. We will compare our new CCPRI score to the recalculated, unofficial 86.6 to know whether we improved in comparison to last year. More to come soon!
Your Proud Principal,
Matt Vance

School Bus Driver Appreciation Week
Next week, October 22-26, marks Fulton County Schools’ celebration of National School Bus Safety Week, a time for schools to highlight safety in transportation and celebrate bus drivers. The 2018 national theme for the week is, “My Driver - My Safety Hero!”
In Fulton County Schools, approximately 800 buses travel 50,000 miles each day with 79,000 students in their tow. Annually, the 1,600 routes equate to more than 10 million miles. To put this in perspective, each school day Fulton County school buses travel the same distance as going around the Earth twice! Next week, be sure to thank the bus drivers and Transportation staff for everything they do to keep our children safe on the roads!

Canned Food Drive
We are getting ready for our annual Canned Food Drive which is coming to MBES from October 29th - November 2nd. This food drive will benefit North Fulton Family Charities. Medlock Bridge staff will be decorating pumpkins to be displayed on the stage. Students will be able to use items they are donating to vote for their favorite pumpkin. At the end of the week, all students who donated an item will be entered into a drawing to bring one of the pumpkins home.
School Store
The School Store is sponsored by the Student council where students can purchase supplies for their classes ranging in prices from $.25 to $2.00 within a school setting. The store will be open every Friday in room 401. Student Council members learn customer service skills and student "customers" can learn to budget and count money. Thank you for your support.

News from the counselor
The Medlock Bridge Elementary Counseling department believes in the personal potential of every student. I am pleased to offer several small group counseling opportunities throughout the year to assist students to reach their full personal and academic potential. The groups are usually six to eight sessions meeting weekly/biweekly. The groups are typically closed ended groups, meaning that students are not added to existing groups (after the groups have begun) unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances and group dynamics allow for new members.
2018-19 Groups
- Self Esteem-Everything is Possible
- Anger/Stress Management
- Changing Families/Divorce
- Peer Relations
All groups are confidential. Students are considered for group participation based on teacher/administrator recommendations and parent request. If you are interested in your child being considered for participation in a small counseling group, please click MBES Small Group Request and you will be redirected to a Google form.
