MCMS Updates October 5, 2022
Stronger together, Mustangs forever!
Mustang Messages
Greetings MCMS Mustang community!
A Note from Mr. Ewbank: We are off to a great start this week at MCMS! Students are deeply engaged in their learning and making great progress since the beginning of the year. This morning, I had the opportunity to visit a number of related arts classes and was so impressed with the growth that has occurred in our artists and musicians in just over a month of the school year. Our Beginning Orchestra students are reading music, trying to get the hang of difficult measures and self assessing how they feel they are doing. MCMS students in our new percussion class are practicing challenging rhythms and keeping steady beats. Mustangs in Graphic Arts are working on creating depth to their work using shading and line techniques, and also creating portraits using fruits, vegetables, flowers, and trees in some work inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Check out some of their previous artistic endeavors below!

Panorama Student Survey Oct. 7th in Advising
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next several weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school on October 7th. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on "School Climate & Safety" and "Social Emotional Skills".
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
If you have any questions about the SEL survey , please don’t hesitate to contact us at 503.673.7450

Free Tutoring Opportunity
Tutor Match is a tutoring program created last year by a Wilsonville High School student who was a part of the National Honors Society. Through this program, students who need help are matched with Wilsonville High School NHS student tutors who want to earn volunteer hours by tutoring. Primary, middle, and high school students may get one-on-one tutoring in subjects they need help with for free.
Students or their parents who are interested in the program may fill out a Student Interest Form. Once an appropriate tutor is found, the match coordinator will give the tutor's contact information to the student or parent. They can then schedule details for the sessions together.
