Weaver Lake Family Newsletter
March 2023
Message from the Principal
Greetings Weaver Lake Wolfpack,
I'm excited to announce that Weaver Lake has been awarded a 2023 Merit School of Excellence honor. This honor comes from the Magnet Schools of America (MSA). The Magnet School of Merit Awards recognizes member magnet schools and programs that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to academic standards, curriculum innovation, desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs, and parent and community involvement. We are one of five schools in the state to receive this award. We all earned this honor together! There will be several staff heading down to Dallas, TX in April to receive the award.
For March, we are thrilled to say that STEM scholars are going to have their first experience in the Starlab Dome. This is a blow up planeterium that seats up to 50 people! Each class will get to experience it this month. Classrooms will be able to experience not only astronomy but it is a way for scholars to explore the ocean, mountains, and more! This was another TEAM effort funded by the district and Weaver Lake's PTO! Your donations to the Fun Run made this happen!
Thank you for attending your scholar's conferences. If you did not get to attend one, please contact your child's classroom teacher. There's still time! As always, if you have questions or comments for us, please do not hesitate to reach out.
With Warm Regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

STEM Identity: Communicator & Problem Solver MVPs
At Weaver Lake we have been learning about what it means to be a STEM student. Each month we learn about a new STEM identity. In December and January, we learned about being communicators and problem solvers. Staff have nominated students who have been noticed showing characteristics of being a communicator and a problem solver as our second trimester MVPs. Nominated MVPs were announced on our morning WVR TV and were invited to an MVP lunch. MVP students will also receive a special MVP tag and certificate.
Our February STEM Identity is Collaborator. In March we will learn about being Collectors.

The week of April 17th, students in grades 3-5 will take the Math MCAs. The week of April 24th, 5th Grade students will take the Science MCAs. MCAs are online tests that students will be taking in their classrooms or in a small group setting using their district issued device. Please help your student be successful with a good night's sleep and breakfast.
Friday Lunch Sign Up for Parents
Fridays are a chance for parents to sign up to come eat with their child in the cafeteria. Space is limited and parents are encouraged to only sign up once a month.
Please sign up for the grade level that your student is in. This will be the time you will be joining them for lunch.
- Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
- Parents will be allowed to have lunch with their child(ren) every Friday. Limit two guests per child.
- Because there is limited space for guests, we ask that parents sign up for a maximum of one lunch per month. You may sign up on the same day for your children in different grades.
- Cost of the school lunch for parents is $5.00 (please bring exact change!). You can use your child's lunch account if they normally pay full price for lunch. Free/reduced lunch families will need to pay for their meal using cash. The school lunch menu can be found here: https://schools.mealviewer.com/school/OsseoISDElementarySchools
- Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled lunch time for your child(ren). If you are purchasing a school lunch for yourself, we ask that you go through the lunch line BEFORE students arrive.
- All parents are asked to be seated at a designated table. Your child(ren) will sit at that table with you after they have gone through the school lunch line (if needed).
- Parents joining their child(ren) for lunch are asked to clean up their area at the end of lunch.
- Please delete your reservation if you are unable to make it to allow for other parents to attend.
