Savvy Students
May/June Newsletter for Norwood/Holden Library Class
It's a Wrap
We are finishing up the year with some great video projects. Students are sharing what they have learned, using WeVideo, Stupeflix, Adobe Sparks, and DoInk Green Screen.
DoInk Social Stories
Second grade students have been learning how to make the right choice in social situations through our library reading. Now they are creating puppet shows in front of a green screen using DoInk to share what they know. The videos will be hosted on the library website.
Tall Tales with Adobe Spark
Third grade students have been hearing tall tales about Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Mike Fink and John Henry. Now they get a chance to share their own tall tales using the newly updated Adobe Spark. Completed projects will live on the library webpage for Student Storytelling.
Line by Line
Fourth grade students are writing and illustrating class stories using Adobe Spark and Chris VanAllsburg's book, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Students vote for the line written by a classmate that they believe best continues the storytelling.

Weebly is KeWL
Fifth grade students are creating Weebly student websites. They will be sharing what they Know, what questions they Want to learn the answers to, and what they Learn on a topic of their choosing. Including links to their research and appropriate images will give them a good first experience creating an informative website.
Teaching is Learning
Sixth grade students have finished their library lessons on Internet Safety and are now working in groups to create videos (Stupeflix or WeVideo), or presentations (Prezi) to be used as teaching tools with next year's classes.
Origami Makerspace
This is the last of the Makerspaces created for students to use during book checkout in the library. The creation of origami animals was very popular. The space included books, paper supplies and instructions.
Tara Castro, Library Media Specialist
It is with mixed feelings that I announce a change for next school year. Sadly, I will be leaving the Norwood community where I have worked for the past 15 years. Next year, I am excited to begin a new chapter of my learning at Wyman Elementary school. I plan on remaining a resource for the Norwood community and faculty. Do not hesitate to contact me.
