Leopard Spotlight!

Cheryl Anderson is our Leopard Spotlight award winner for 5.19.23! Mrs. Anderson does a fabulous job of working with students in 4 different classes. She works very closely with all of her students to ensure that they will be ready for the AP exam or the next level of English. Not only is she a great English teacher, but she is also in charge of our UIL Academic team. She has worked very diligently to put a strong team of teachers together to work with our students that has helped them excel in their categories. LHS is very fortunate to have Mrs. Anderson!

Parking Lot

Students, it is very important that we practice safe driving habits at all times on our campus. We kindly ask that you follow the speed limit, traffic rules, and stay off your phone. Please park in the correct parking spot that is assigned to you. Also, make sure to be considerate to other drivers on the road. Keep in mind that there are several people walking across our campus to their vehicles, athletic facilities, and school buildings. Let's all do our part to keep each other safe while behind the wheel.

NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing

Peyton Hays has been selected for a 2023 Achievement Award in Writing, given by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Her writings earned First Class, the Council's highest designation.

The NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing is a school-based writing program established in 1957 to
encourage high school students to write and to recognize some of the best student writers in the nation. Only students who are juniors may participate. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate students for the writing program.

This year, schools nominated 360 students. Of that number, 114 were selected to receive the First Class designation, 131 received the Superior designation, 71 received the Excellent designation, and 31 received the Merit designation. Each student submitted two pieces of writing. Two to three
independent judges scored each submission on expression of ideas, language use, and unique
perspective and voice.
