Happy Father's Day!
As we honor our fathers on this Father's Day, let us also remember and honor God, our Father, who created each and everyone of us to know Him, serve Him, love Him and be happy with Him in Heaven.
Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father Prayer, inviting us to an intimate relationship with God who wants us to call Him Father. What a great and wonderful privilege this is!
This weekend, let's celebrate our fathers, uncles, grandfathers, priests, and especially God our Heavenly Father, for their endless love and support!
Mass Readings for Sunday, June 20: Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In this weekend's Gospel, Mark describes the story of how Jesus calms the storm on the Sea of Galilee. His mighty actions make the disciples fear transform into awe and worship.
As Jesus and his disciples were on the boat and a furious storm came in, many lives were at stake. The disciples were experienced fishermen and expert sailors. So we might expect that they would handle things on their own. The fact that they turned to Jesus for help likely meant that they were at the end of their means—they had tried everything they knew to combat the storm and had failed. At the point of pure desperation, they woke Jesus with screams of terror.
We have the benefit of knowing how the story of Jesus’ calming the storm ends. But imagine the disciples’ amazement when the raging waves instantly became calm. Even today, with our advanced technology, we don’t have any control over the weather and can’t always forecast it very accurately. In Jesus’ day, controlling the weather was known strictly as the domain of God. In the instant the storm ceased, the disciples began to realize more fully who Jesus was. He had demonstrated his power in healing people, but never before had he done anything of this magnitude.
The disciples’ terrified response is understandable when we consider God’s power and purity in light of our own weakness and imperfection. But the disciples came to learn that no matter how bad a situation seemed, the first thing they needed to do was turn to Jesus. As we are disciples of Jesus, we reflect and learn from these stories to build our faith and trust in Jesus and God.
Activities for Family
A Father's Day Gift! - "My Dad is a Faithful Leader..."
The same way a loving father feels toward his children—that’s but a sample of your tender feelings toward us, your beloved children, who live in awe of you.
– Psalm 103:13 (The Passion Translation)
On Father's Day, we show appreciation to the fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other fatherly role models in our lives. Among their many responsibilities in caring for us, fathers are leaders in sharing our faith.
Below is a sample craft children can create for their fathers or fatherly role models on this Father's Day weekend!
- Using construction paper, cut out a shape of a cross. Use yarn or string to create a loop if you want to hang this craft.
- One the cross, write these words in colorful, bold letters: "MY DAD IS A FAITHFUL LEADER BECAUSE..." (You can substitute the word "DAD" for the father role model you are giving this craft to)
- Decorate the cross with pictures and reasons your father is a faith leader! (Think about how to describe his positive qualities and why you love him!)
Take a picture of your craft, or you, your craft and father/grandfather/uncle etc. that you gave it to! Email your pictures to catherinek@holyfamilyforall.org so we can include it in next week's Family Faith Newsletter!

God Bless Our Communicants!
Last weekend, Holy Family Parish welcomed 7 children as they were baptized into our church, plus an additional 57 children received their First Holy Communion! In recent weeks, they also received First Penance.
As a parish, we are most grateful for celebrations like these! Thank you to parents and families for their spiritual support in guiding and teaching your children in receiving the sacraments. After two years of preparation, Holy Family Parish is most proud of our children who were baptized and received First Communion last weekend!
