The Current War
Edison vs. Tesla
Quick Definitions
What is Direct Current?
Direct Current, or more commonly known as DC, is defined as an electric current of constant direction, having a magnitude that does not vary or varies only slightly.
What is Alternating Current?
Alternating Current, better know as AC, is defined as an electric current that reverses direction at regular intervals, having a magnitude that varies continuously in a sinusoidal manner.

Thomas Edison
The famous innovative inventor of Direct Current (DC), Mr. Thomas Edison, lacked formal education and in turn became the reason why he was completely reliant on tedious experimentation for the majority of his discoveries. Time after his invention of the electric light bulb, Edison came across a young man named Nikola Tesla who had much potential and would soon become an employee of Edison's company. Tesla did however shine light on his theories of Alternating Current (AC) but was turned away by Edison. He simply believed that DC was superior to Tesla's "impractical" theory. That's when the feud began between who could prove what was better, AC or DC.
Nikola Tesla
Emotionally driven dreamer, Nikola Tesla, first began to pursue a career in the engineering field in the early years of his life. With much experience and education in the field Tesla was able to work out theories before actually having to physically implement them. In comparison to creator of DC and the first electric light bulb he was highly efficient. While working for Edison, he researched and developed the theory of AC. It was later sent away by Edison, for it was seen to be impractical and inferior to DC. Tesla took his leave from Edison's company and started his very own "Tesla Electric Light Company". However without the proper funding he could not afford to place more than one AC power plant anywhere. Thanks to industrialist George Westinghouse, whom took interest and supported AC, Tesla was able to Expand his company and become the main power supplying method even in use today.
