November Mock Interviews to Take Place

Our sophomores will partake in Mock Interviews on November 18th & 19th. Like many companies, we are going virtual for these interviews. It is a great place to give our students a chance to practice preparing for a job. They learn how to search for a job, build a resume, the application process, how to succeed at an interview, and even writing a thank you note. If you would like to be a part of this, we are looking for volunteers and community members who are comfortable with interviewing. We will be using Google Meets and Google Forms to complete the process. Please contact LindaLee Frazier either by email (frazier2@gresham.k12.or.us) or give her a call at - 503-258-4885 if you have some time on these dates to help us with this valuable task.

We have had a lot of interest in the test so we opened up an additional opportunity. If you are interested sign up for:

A Part-Time Job for Students has Benefits

All staff at Sam Barlow believe that a student's first job is school. We want students to do well here, graduate with a good GPA, participate in clubs or sports to be well-rounded, and find time to "be a kid." But we know that that may also mean they need a part-time job to help with expenses. There are benefits for students who work besides the money. They learn responsibility, tenacity, balancing school/work, and more.

We can help students when they complete our Job Skills Training and receiving a letter of recommendation. Also, they can make an appointment to practice their interview, we can guide them with a resume, and we have a current list of some of the jobs in the area.

This is the time of year for seasonal hiring, and we see for-hire signs everywhere. If a student proves to the employer that they can learn the job skills, good customer service, and they are dependable, then they may be kept on after the holidays!

Military Lunch Events for Students

If you are interested in learning more about how the military can benefit you after high school, please join us for our Military Lunch Events-

November 3rd- The Air Force is here to share about a career in aircraft mechanics. Join us to talk to a soldier in the field and enjoy a Subway sandwich.

November 17th- Join the National Guard to find out how you can earn money while in high school and then how your tuition is paid for! We also have a tank crewman joining us to ask what it is like to work in a tank.

Lunch is provided during both lunches. Come to the College & Career Center. Sign-up Here.
