Ya Win Some Ya Lose Some
November 21, 2017
Hi 1st Impressions!
Most of you know that I've been a stylist for over 8 1/2 yrs now. I've had my share of great shows/style sessions and super poor ones. This past weekend was a slow one.
SATURDAY I drove an hour to a style session with 4 guests. I connected with the hostess a few days before for a final touch-base to encourage more guests "Everyone could bring friends!" Honestly I was hoping she'd postpone for a date when we could get a larger crowd AND another opportunity had come up that was going to be MUCH bigger. But, she wanted to keep it (good problem to have) so of course I was going to fulfill my responsibilities.
Short rundown:
- lovely group of women
- 2 orders totaling $230
- paid more for gas than I got on commissions
- took a good chunk of the day way from my family time
SUNDAY: Long vendor event with a few orders. Not worth my time if I chose to look at it as only from sales and not from the contacts I met. By the end of the weekend I was exhausted (as you could see from my Facebook Live on our US Team Page yesterday).
"Why do you do these types of events?," my husband asked. If I looked at these as bummer events where I barely sold a thing and therefore felt the "gig was up", my business would be over.
But for the 8 1/2 yrs. I've been styling away, I choose to ALWAYS look at every event as a positive one as there is ALWAYS A SILVER LINING. And yes, I've had shows with ZERO sales. Yet, I either make a new contact to book a future show, sell a future item, welcome a new stylist on our team, or simply have the story to share with YOU that even after all this time, I have bummer shows.
Moral of the story: Don't get yourself down if your event doesn't produce what you want during those few hours.
Instead, work to bring in the outside orders after the event by following up with the guests about our great specials and be the personal shopping helper everyone would love in their life!
If your show cancels before it happens, turn it into an online show. Make up a Facebook Event and get the hostess to also ENGAGE/TAG her friends for maximum viewage and connection.
