What is it?

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student to excel. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for further education. SkillsUSA was formerly known as VICA (the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

Mid-America Leadership Conference (Mid-Am)

October 20-23, 2016 in Columbus, NE. The Mid-America Leadership Conference is a leadership conference with training for State/ Local Officers and Advisors on how to run a local chapter. Students and advisors will be divided into color chapters and they will run an entire year’s program in the 3 ½ days of the conference. The students will be planning, implementing and completing community service projects, fundraisers, officer elections, newspaper articles, contests, completing secretary’s and treasurer’s notebooks, business and industry field trips, general sessions and all the necessary elements to have a successful chapter through theNational Program of Work.

State Leadership Conference (SLC)

March 30-April 1, 2017 in Grand Island, NE. The SkillsUSA Nebraska championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in Nebraska. More than 2000 people - including students, teachers and business partners - are expected to participate in the two and one-half day event. Students in skilled and technical science contests work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. Leadership contestants will demonstrate skills including extemporaneous speaking and conducting meetings by parliamentary procedure. The competitions will be open to the public and free of charge. The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers' needs.

National Leadership Conference (NLC)

SkillsUSA heads to Louisville, Ky., June 19-23, 2017, for the 53rd annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), a showcase of career and technical education students. More than 16,000 people — including students, teachers and business partners — are expected to participate in the weeklong event.
