Amendments
Amendments 1 and 2
Amendment One: Freedom of Speech, Religion, Press, Petition, and Assembly
What right does it give the people?
What restrictions are there?
Don't understand? Here is an example. Let's say there was a man that wanted one president to win the election but another candidate won. That person is allowed to say any bad thing they want about that candidate that they want but if they say something that endagers another persons (or the president's) right to be safe then it is a crime.
There are also other restrictions, libel and slander. Libel keeps magazines newspaper, and any other written document from telling lies and printing them. Slander keps people from false statements or reports.
Why was this amendment included in the Constitution?
What current event shows amendment one?
Another current event that shows amendment one (freedom of religion) is that some public school excused jewish children from school for Yom Kippur so they could go to religious services. This should not be allowed because it would show a preference for that group. I think that they should let everyone off of school because they can't just let one group go and not another.
Another current event that shows amendment one (freedom of assembly) is the gay pride parade. The gay pride parade is where people that support same sex marriage and gay people.I think that this is a good idea because I think that they should be able to get married like anyone else.
The last current event that shows amendment one (freedom of petition) is that a girl in middle school plays for her school football team. That part is fine but people are saying that next year she is not allowed to play. She doesn't think that it is fair to she started an online petition to let girls play football. I think that girls should be allowed to play football because they should be allowed to do anything that a man could do even if not a lot of girls would want to do it.
