FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Year One Catherine Gang were a hoot! What a fantastic assembly! Congratulations to all the children, their teacher Trish Norman and assistant Sylvia Ryan. We just loved it.
Thanks also to teachers of Year Four, Tom Kinder and Dave Edwards and student teacher Abbey, as well as the parent helpers for making today’s Year Four retreat in preparation for their First Communion, a really special day.
Bishop Don Sproxton visited our school today, which marks the start of the weekend he is spending in the parish. If you are around over the weekend, please introduce yourself to him.
Wednesday is a holy day of obligation. It is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We will be attending Mass, led by Year Four Students. You are welcome to join us.
Next Friday sees the Pre Primary Dominic Gang assembly – don’t miss it!
Have a great weekend

Holy Rosary Athletics Carnival 2018
Friday September 14 September
The Holy Rosary Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday September 14 and will involve Pre Primary to Year 6 students. The senior carnival will commence at 9am and should be completed by around 3pm with Year 3 – 6 students being in attendance all day. The Junior School PP – Year 2 will do their running races as part of the main carnival and then do fun focused tabloid sports with their teachers and this should finish around 1pm.
As happens every year a number of the sporting events will be completed during the students P.E lessons and the points earned in these events will be added to the scoring program before the carnival.
Timing gates will once again be used and I hope this will make the judging of running races a fairly simple process. As you would be aware the athletics carnival is a large event and needs a lot of parent support to run smoothly. I would therefore, really appreciate as many parent helpers from Year 3 – 6 on the day as possible. The PP – Year 2 teachers will send out their own information sheets.
If you are able to help at the senior carnival could you please complete the note that has gone home this week and return it to your child’s classroom teacher by August 21.

LIBRARY NEWS
Book Week and Pirate Cupcake Stall
Book Week commences on Monday 20 August, week 6, with the theme "Find Your Treasure" culminating in our exciting Book Week Parade on Fri 24 August where students can dress as their favourite book characters. We have been talking in library about using things we already have at home to put our costumes together. The parade will be in the gym this year and parents are welcome to come and view the amazing Book Week art in the library after the parade.
The Holy Rosary Community also will hold a cupcake stall at lunchtime on Friday 24th to raise money for Pirate Day (http://www.piratedayfriday.org.au/about-us/) - raising awareness and vital funds for research into childhood cancer. Cupcakes will be sold for a gold coin donation. If you can help by donating cupcakes for this stall please email: holyrosaryhelpers@gmail.com
Book Week and Pirate Day are much loved by our HR students so it is going to be a super fun day while we raise money for this worthy cause! We appreciate your support.

FAQ
Last year we had two discos, but this year there is only one. Why is that?
The decision to run just the one disco for this year is based on a shortage of parents and guardians to run two events. That may change next year depending on interest. Please note that the decision to run one disco won’t affect the annual donation from the HRC to the Year Six Graduation for running the music at the disco!
HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS

⚾ TRY TEE-BALL – REGISTER THIS WEEKEND! ⚾
The Nolans are one of many Holy Rosary families involved in the local Woodlands Tee-Ball Club. Isaac, Laura and Myles have all played over the years, while dad Richard Nolan is a volunteer coach.
Tee-Ball is a modified version of baseball; the main difference being that players hit the ball off a tee and there is no pitching. It’s a great way to play sport with Holy Rosary class mates, make new friends and have fun!
Girls and boys from Pre-Primary up to Year 5 can play.
