Dragon Roar: 09.01.19 Week 3
Daring Greatly in Faith, Academics & Service since 1960
We are firmly rooted!
Good afternoon, dragons!
In today's Gospel, Jesus uses a parable to teach the Pharisees.
"When you hold a lunch or a dinner,
do not invite your friends or your brothers
or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors,
in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.
Rather, when you hold a banquet,
invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.
For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
Luke 14:1,7-14
Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today Jesus asks to enter into relationships that are not transactional. This is more than just a lesson about dinner etiquette. It is advice on how to find your true place in the Kingdom of God. Jesus advises hosts not to invite people who would be expected to repay them to dinner but to invite those who could not repay: the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. This is where real blessings can be found and true happiness is found. What are ways our families can build relationships rooted in Christ--instead of paying each other back?
Blessings,
Ms. Salazar | Principal
