Dragon Roar: 09.01.19 Week 3
Daring Greatly in Faith, Academics & Service since 1960
We are firmly rooted!
Good afternoon, dragons!
In today's Gospel, Jesus uses a parable to teach the Pharisees.
"When you hold a lunch or a dinner,
do not invite your friends or your brothers
or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors,
in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.
Rather, when you hold a banquet,
invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.
For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today Jesus asks to enter into relationships that are not transactional. This is more than just a lesson about dinner etiquette. It is advice on how to find your true place in the Kingdom of God. Jesus advises hosts not to invite people who would be expected to repay them to dinner but to invite those who could not repay: the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. This is where real blessings can be found and true happiness is found. What are ways our families can build relationships rooted in Christ--instead of paying each other back?

Week at a Glance
Volleyball kicks off!
Our Volleyball ladies kicked off with two games and tournament this past week. We are excited to see your growth and keep on cheering you on!!
The Academic Excellence Team from the Archdiocese set us up to implement new testing. Reminder--we will no longer be testing with the IOWA test and have adopted a measurement of growth that directly aligns with Texas Standards and our Archdiocesan Standards, the NWEA test. Students will be tested 3 times during the year. See the sheet below AND in your handbook that explains this new test. Testing will occur in small increments (no more than 45 min at a time) and be computer-based. Students do not need to study for it as it is a measure in real-time of student progress. Continue getting good sleep and healthy breakfast!
Fr. Thumma celebrates St. Monica with us!
We had Mass on Tuesday to celebrate the fest day of St. Monica. Fr. Thumma quizzed us on why St. Monica was important and we learned more about her model of perseverance. Fr. Thumma asked us to continue praying for our parents and guardians.
Volleyball kicks off!
