The Past Couple of Weeks!

Dear CGES Family,

I want to take a moment to discuss some of the highlights from the past couple of weeks. During this time, we have had visits from the Animal Shelter, performed violin concerts, broke fundraising records, and kicked-off our Clubs! First graders had a visit from the local Animal Shelter in order to learn about the many things they do for our community. Of course, the highlight of this talk was the kitten that made the trip! I want to congratulate the entire 2nd grade for their amazing violin concerts. It is truly amazing to see how much these young students are able to learn in such a short time. I also want to give a huge shout out to the entire CGES community for their participation in the PTO Marcos Spirit Night! We broke records! This past Friday also marked the kick-off for Clubs this year. Our students did a great job participating and engaging in many different club activities that included Project Outreach, Spanish Club, robotics, chess, and many more. Here's to a great October!

National Blue Ribbon Schools Program

CGES will be participating in the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program this year in an effort to receive feedback from some of the top educators across the country. As part of this process, we need your feedback! Please be on the lookout for a letter coming home with a unique access code to the survey. All responses will remain anonymous and will be compiled into one report. We will use this information to evaluate ourselves and make CGES even better! Thank you for your participation.

City Saver

The final turn-in date for city-saver cards/books is this Wednesday, October 2nd. Please do all you can to promote and remind our students about this fundraiser. As of right now, we have a long way to go before I move my office to the bed of my truck!
Big picture

Austin High School Homecoming Week!

We will be participating in several activities to support AHSs Homecoming Week of October 7th-11th. This will include participation in the theme of the day as well as the Parade with a Purpose. The purpose drive for this year is raising toilet paper for donations to several groups/charities across our community. The AHS Ambassadors have place a tub in the front lobby for donations to be placed in. Please help spread the word!

The themes for Homecoming week of October 7th - 11th are:

Marvel Monday (Superheroes)

Tacky Tuesday

Wipe-out Wednesday (Beach)

Jersey Thursday

School Spirit Friday (Orange and Black)

I encourage everyone to participate!

Accelerated Reader Program

CGES is making a big push this year to increase our participation and success rate in the Accelerated Reader Program (AR). Please encourage your child to read every night! Reading every night is statistically proven to help your child succeed academically across all disciplines. AR tests can be taken throughout the week in class and students can earn points to go toward incentives throughout the year. 4th and 5th grade will be hosting fun events on the last day of the nine-weeks for students who have completed their reading AR goals. All grades will kick-off their incentive programs at the beginning of the second nine-weeks. Please encourage your child to participate.

All students that reach the "Million Word Challenge" will be receiving a t-shirt from the district as well as an extra prize from Mr. Christopher!

Please follow CGES on Facebook for the most up-to-date information!
