Simile
A figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid.
Example: "Prim's face is as fresh as a raindrop, as lovely as the primrose for which she was named".

Metaphor
A figure os speech that compares two objects or things without using the words "like" or "as"
Example: "Katniss, the girl who was on fire."

Personification
The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.
Example: "With both of us hunting daily, there are still nights when the games has to be swapped for lard or shoe laces or wool, still nights when we go to bed with our stomachs growling."

Hyperbole
Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
Example: "Attendance is mandatory unless you are on death's door".

Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected word.
Example: "I noticed him, a boy with blond hair peering out from behind his mothers back."
