Cloverdale Elementary News
Week Of March 15, 2021
Principal's Den
I pray that you are all doing well and staying healthy. This week I am very excited because we are having our 2nd Trimester virtual awards. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to honor our students and their families for all of their outstanding effort and perseverance this school year. We have many award to give out to our wonderful students. Your teachers will be communicating with you on the time for your ceremony. We also have our monthly recognition awards this Friday for our students of the month, PBIS, and AVID award winners.
This week we are also working hard before our Spring Break. Our last day is March 19th and we will return on April 5th. I hope you all stay safe and are able to enjoy the weather and get some fresh Spring air. This is a good time for our students to reset as we prepare to finish our third trimester strong. We have lots to learn and lots to do.
This month we also celebrate Women's History Month. Each week you will hear me highlight an individual and share a little about their biography.
Our school is beginning to administer the ELPAC assessment to all of our students classified as English Language Learners. If your child is listed as an English Learner, you will be receiving more information about the assessment and schedule soon.
Please continue to follow safety protocols and remind others to do the same regarding Covid 19. The faster we can overcome this pandemic as a community, the faster we can return to a sense of normalcy. Remember to wash your hands frequently and thoroughly. Wear your mask and stay at home as much as possible.
STAR students of the week - Congratulations to our STAR students of the week: Sophia Ruelas from Ms. Bitetto's class and Nehemiah Gibson from Ms. Mora's class. We have many other outstanding nominees for this special award and I will proudly read their names in the morning announcements. Please make sure that your students continue to stay engaged and participate in their classes daily.
Employees of the Month: We are recognizing a certificated teacher and a classified educator for the month of March. Our teacher of the month is Ms. Ayala and our classified educator is our school librarian Ms. Cruzen.
I also want to recognize our teacher of the year and classified educator of the year that will represent our school at our district's Saluting Education event. Our teacher of the year is Ms. Richards and our Classified Educator of the Year is Ms. Kim Sharp, our evening custodian.
Thank you,
At Cloverdale we strive to be Leaders by Example. As I mention to our students during announcements, this means that we always try to do the right thing even when no one is looking.
As part of our school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), we also learn to ROAR. This is a matrix that exemplifies our core values of being Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Responsible.
Our goal is to be college ready once we graduate from High School and that starts today!
Sincerely,
Genaro García

Employees Of The Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Richards who is a first grade teacher here at Cloverdale! Mrs. Richards knew she wanted to be a teacher as a child, in her words “ this is my dream job.” She has been teaching for 32 years. She has spent the majority of her career at Cloverdale, this marks her 24th year here. We are so lucky to have her on our team!
Classified Employee Of The Year:
Congratulations to Kim Sharp our evening custodian. Kim started working for MVUSD as a sub custodian in October of 2014. She worked at a few different sites before she was offered a long term assignment at Armada elementary, where she remained worked through August 2015. Kim decided to apply for a permanent position with the district after realizing how much she truly enjoyed the job. In August of 2015 she was offered a spot at Cloverdale Elementary and lucky for use she accepted. We have been so fortunate to have her hard-working and friendly personality as a part of our Cloverdale family since then.

When you haven’t been able to get mean behaviors to stop, you should tell a caring adult.
If you practice reporting bullying, it’s easier to report bullying when it really happens.

You can have conflicting feelings about a situation.
Having empathy helps you notice when others’ feelings are the same as or different from yours.
4th and 5th Grade-Emotion Management
When you feel strong feelings, it’s hard to think clearly.
Unmanaged, strong emotions can lead to negative behavior and consequences.
