What Are We Learning This Week?
New reading logs came home on Friday, Nov. 1. They are all due on Monday, December 2. Please encourage your child to find a cozy spot to read for at least 20-30 min. 5 days a week. They can read to you, to a sibling or by themselves.
Writing: Most of the class is in the self and peer editing stage. However, we still have a few that are continuing their drafting of their narrative piece. Students are adding story structure details, and making sure that they enhance their story with writer's tricks.
Math: In math, we will begin unit 3 this week. The concept is on fractions and decimals. Your students will bring home a family letter that will give you some example ideas of how students can solve problems, but also the main concepts that we will discuss. My hope is that the students will bring their unit 2 math test home on Monday, but at the latest it will be Tuesday. It is time consuming to grade and then put into our grading system, but I will work my hardest to complete them by Monday.
Science: We will finish our discussion on light, and then we will begin to discuss alternative energy sources that are available: Wind, solar, hybrid/battery, hydro-.
Social Studies: We will begin chapter 3 this week. The chapter is on the Peopling of the United States. There will be a family project coming home next week that is ABSOLUTELY OPTIONAL. We would love to hear the different ways that immigration happened for your family. However, this is a very sensitive subject for many families, and I know that many families do not feel comfortable sharing at this time. That is absolutely fine.
Students can be reading from the textbook that they can bring home and back to school each day. However, they also have access to the textbook on https://student.teachtci.com/student/sign_in They have their username and password on a green sheet in their binders.
Spelling: No spelling this week because of the two day week. We will focus on our DLR: Daily Language Review/Grammar practices.
