Where Red on Friday for Good Luck!!!
Coming Up This Week...
Reading-We will travelling to China this week in reading! We will be learning how the Chinese culture differs from ours and how the country of China differs from the United States. We will be studying Chinatowns around the country, the reason they exist, and and how they differ from other U.S. cities. We will be using a realistic fiction story from our Harcourt book, as well as other informational text during guided reading.
I hope they come home with some amazing facts!

Social Studies-Chinese New Year -We will be celebrating Chinese New Year on Friday.
Writing-In Writer's Workshop this week, we will continue to work on complete sentences. We will be focusing on parts of speech: nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We will also be learning how to use descriptive verbs and adjectives to improve our writing.
Science-We will be wrapping up our rock unit this week! We will be sorting and classifying rocks and minerals, learn more about volcanoes and how lava viscosity effects the type of volcano formed.
Math-We are beginning Topic 10 today which is understanding numbers to 1,000. This is an important place value unit, but I think will come easily to my class. Topic Nine tests went home on Friday. For such a difficult unit, I was very pleased with their test scores. If your child did not do well on the test, they will have a chance to retake it sometime this week.

Marble Party This Friday!
We have filled up our Marble Jar! We have all decided that we are getting a little tired of this cold weather so we are going to celebrate by having a beach party. Students can bring their sunglasses, a beach towel, and a summery hat if they'd like. Friday afternoon we will be spreading out our towels, grabbing some great books and enjoy relaxing sounds of the ocean waves. We will also be enjoying a summer treat!
Donuts with Dad-Thursday, February 6th from 7:00-8:10 AM
Please RSVP if you are planning to attend by returning the pink Donuts with Dad sheet that was sent home with your child.
February Conferences Coming Soon! February 12th and 13th
Keep up the Great Reading at Home!
Don't forget to read, read, read! It makes a huge difference in using reading strategies, vocabulary development, word recognition, fluency and comprehension. Please send in December reading calendars. You can send in the calendar or just send me the number of days in an e-mail. Every student that turns in a reading calendar, gets a coupon for a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza!
