Power Hour on May 25 - Summer Learning Options in KSD
KSD is excited to offer expanded options for student learning this summer, with in-person and online programming for current K-12 students. To help you better understand these options, we are hosting a Power Hour on May 25, live via Zoom and Facebook, to further describe the programs and answer questions you may have. Our session will begin at 11:30, continuing through roughly 12:35. The video will remain on Facebook and will be posted on our website for later viewing, recognizing that many families cannot be available at midday. Questions can be asked live via Zoom or Facebook, or you can submit these in advance using this form.
11:30 - Welcome and overview
11:35 - Learn more about expanded options via Launch, with specific focus on K-8 programming
Roughly 11:50 - Hear from Andrea Sparkling, administrator for Elementary JumpStart
Roughly 12:05 - Hear from Jen Hoell and Matt Gaglio, administrators for Middle School JumpStart
Roughly 12:20 - Hear from Phil Deist, administrator for ESY/Summer School at KHS
Our Power Hour may also include special appearances from terrific KSD principals.

K-5 Reading Resources for Families
Summer School Opportunities 2021
We are once again excited that ALL Kirkwood students will have access to terrific summer options through Launch, a virtual course access provider based in Springfield Public Schools. Kirkwood students (K-12) can enroll in enrichment, extension, and/or credit enhancement courses, at no cost to families or to our district. Several specific courses that may be of interest to our families include:
- Themed courses for elementary students, with virtual field trips, arts and PE, and six-hours of daily teacher support, small group, and one-on-one instruction
- Enrichment, remediation, and extended learning classes in middle school
- Adaptive, self-paced academies in reading, math, and coding (Elem & MS)
- ACT Prep for our rising juniors/seniors
We encourage all families to review Launch information on our website at kirkwoodschools.org/summerschool2021. Please note that families interested in Launch programming will register directly with Kirkwood this year, NOT with Springfield School District, eliminating the need for birth certificates and medical records. Access to this KSD registration process can be found HERE.
