School Will Be in Session on Tuesday

Thankfully, the storm is not directly heading our way. School will be open on Tuesday.

Safety & Security

Over the summer, our OES Safety Team worked hard to fine tune our safety and security procedures and as a result, we have tightened up our procedures.

Additionally, throughout the month of August, we have practiced a variety of safety drills. Our students have done a great job of finding the balance of taking these drills seriously, but not being overly alarmed by them.

Going forward, once a month, we will have a fire drill and a lockdown drill. Several times a year, we have an evacuation drill and once a year, we have a tornado drill.

SAC Meeting

This Wednesday, from 4:00-5:00 pm, in our OES Media Center, we will have our first SAC meeting of the year. Included in our agenda will be an overview of our school grades, new curriculum and safety and security, We hope to see you there.

OES Curriculum Nights (Third Grade, Diecidue & Cohill's Class)

Third grade Curriculum Night is coming up on Tuesday. Additionally, Mrs. Cohill's class and Mrs. Diecidue's class has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 5:00 pm.

The purpose of Curriculum Night is for parents and guardians to better understand the grade level curriculum, behavioral and organizational expectations. There is consistency among the school and grade level for some things, and other expectations are teacher specific. When parents/guardians are able to come to this event, it is time well spent and will help make the year go by more smoothly.

Third Grade: Tuesday, 9/3, 5:00-6:00 pm

Mind Up Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum

When your child hops in your car in the afternoon after a busy day at school, you want to know how their day went. We often ask our children, "how was your day?" We either get a standard "good" or "bad" or a report on their behavior. Asking more detailed questions, not only help you better understand what is going on at school, but also queues your child to look for interesting things to tell you about, and be more mindful about the events that occur in the day.

Additionally, if you want to prime their day for positivity, make sure you always ask a positive question, so they know during the day to look for the good stuff to tell you about.

This list provides some ideas of specific questions to ask, in lieu of "how was your day?".

This week in MindUP, students are continuing to learn about mindful awareness. This lesson focuses on teaching students to focus on one thing at a time and be mindful listeners. (For more information on our curriculum visit Mind Up.)
