St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Weekly Newsletter 8.9.23

Welcome!

It is with great joy that we once again open the doors at St Joseph's and welcome in families old and new this September.

This year promises to be a good one, and we can't wait to get to know you better, and will be providing lots of opportunities for this to happen.

As your new headteacher, I'd love to meet you so please come along to the events we will be hosting or catch me on the door or the playground to say hello!

We look forward to working with our families so that together we can...

Live, love and learn with the Lord.

Celebration Assemblies

It is important to us to celebrate our amazing children and we warmly invite you to do this with us!

Each Friday morning at 9:10am, we will hold a whole school celebration assembly in our school hall and families are welcome to join us.

Each class will showcase their week's learning and we will present Class Awards and a Headteacher Award.

After the assembly, parents/carers/families are welcome to stay for refreshments.

These will be weekly, beginning next Friday (15th September). We look forward to seeing you there!

This week we have been learning...

St Nicholas (Nursery and Preschool)

In St Nicholas this week, we have been settling in and learning our new routines. This has involved lots of play and lots of singing!

St Francis (Reception / Y1)

We have had a fantastic week settling into our new Reception/Year 1 class. As a part of our termly topic, ‘Ourselves’, we have been drawing some lovely self-portraits. In science, the children have been learning all about the human body, where we worked together to trace and label different parts of ourselves. It has been a joy to see everyone back and ready for this academic year!

St Bernadette (Y2)

We have had a busy first week in St Bernadette's! Along with all our learning, we compiled a list of our own class rules to keep our time at school happy, positive and fun. After writing our rules, we painted our fingers to stamp our seal of approval with our fingerprint!

St Patrick (Y3/4)

In St Patrick's, we have been learning about our virtue of respect and reflecting on this using graffiti!

St Therese (Y5/6)

On Wednesday afternoon, we received a delivery in St Therese Class - four boxes of 'Egyptian desert sand'. Taking it in turns, we searched through the sand and found artefacts, which we used to learn about our new topic: The Ancient Egyptians! We have already learned a lot, so please feel free to ask us what we found out.

Families Survey

It will be really helpful for us to know your thoughts about our school. Just like you, we want the best for our children.

All feedback is genuinely appreciated so please help us improve by filling out our family survey (this will close at 12pm, Friday 15th Sept):

Uniform and PE Kits

This year, children will come into school in uniform each day. On PE days, children will change into PE kits at school. We appreciate this is different to last year, but we feel this will help children to practise fine motor skills; develop important life skills; feel a stronger part of our community; and help us maintain high standards of pride in our school.

The PE days for each class are as follows:

St Francis (Reception/Y1): Thursday

St Bernadette (Y2): Friday

St Patrick (Y3/4): Monday

St Therese (Y5/6): Monday

Swimming is on a Wednesday afternoon for Years 1-4. Children need to come in uniform with their swimming kit in a bag please.

After School Clubs

We are delighted to be offering after school clubs this term. Spaces are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact the school office ASAP if you would like a place for your child:

Monday - Futsal Sports Club

Tuesday - Craft Club

Wednesday - Multi-sports Club

Mini Vinnies

Next Wednesday, Mrs Ronicle and Miss Savelli will be selecting our new school Mini Vinnies! Our Mini Vinnies will put their faith and concern for others into action, by living out their mission of see, think, do, across our school and local community.

If your child would like to apply (this is open to children from Year 2 - Year 6), they need to write a short letter about why they think they would make a great Mini Vinnie.

Please hand these to the school office or Mrs Ronicle before next Wednesday (13th).

We will then hold short interviews with our applicants and decide on our new Mini Vinnie Team!

If you would like to find out more about Mini Vinnies, have a look at their website:
