Wade King Elementary
November 9, 2021
A Note from our Administrative Team
Hello Wade King Families,
Returning to full-time in-person learning this year has been wonderful. It's also been a time to continue to hold on to aspects of remote learning that were especially valuable. We learned through COVID-19 how powerful strong school-family partnerships were and want to continue learning as much as we can from families, as their child's first teacher, moving forward.
It has felt great to have our 1st-5th grade families in the building last week for Student-Involved Conferences. It has been a time to celebrate the growth that students are making and for you and your child to collaborate with your child's teacher to set goals for the coming weeks and months. As we move forward, our hope is that the conversation and collaboration continue.
Kindergarten families, you have already had an in-person and Zoom meeting with your child's teacher so they will be connecting with you in January to set up your child's Student-Involved Conference. If you want to connect sooner, don't hesitate to connect with your child's teacher.
With Gratitude,
Stephanie Johnson, Principal
Stephanie Korn, Administrator

Registration Open - Promise Kindergarten
What is Promise Kindergarten?
Promise K focuses on building basic academic and social skills to help qualifying students get a jump-start toward success in school. Promise K is located at multiple elementary schools across our school district; sites for 2022 have not yet been finalized.
Program Dates and Times
Family conferences will be scheduled on Monday, Jan. 3 and Tuesday, Jan. 4, and the first full day of Promise K is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2022. Promise K students attend daily from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and follow the district calendar; the last day of the school year is currently scheduled for June 17, 2022. The strategic plan for Bellingham Public Schools, The Bellingham Promise, drives us to do all we can in support of all students at every level of education. One of our key strategies is to enhance and invest in early childhood learning opportunities. We believe offering Promise Kindergarten is a positive and critical step in helping all children transition into our schools and start their journeys of lifelong learning.
Apply here
If your child qualifies and you are interested in enrolling them into our Promise K program, please fill out the online application. We invite you to share this information with friends and neighbors who may also have a child within Bellingham Public Schools boundaries who qualifies for Promise K.
COVID-19 Testing & Vaccines for Children
If your child needs to have a COVID-19 PCR test before they are able to return to school, and you are unable to get a testing appointment quickly within the community, our school nurse, Alyssa Johnson, and Health Room Aide, Jennifer Thornton, are able to do COVID-19 testing at school. These tests are processed by Northwest Labs. If this is a support you need, just call our office and let us know!
We are excited that children ages 5-11 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine! Local providers are expected to give shots as soon as next week, but many are not yet scheduling appointments until they have doses in hand. Remember that our local providers are facing a lot of challenges, including staff shortages. At this time, Bellingham Public Schools are not planning to hold in-school vaccination clinics but will share info that will help families access vaccines through community providers.
Note from Mrs. Wakefield (our School Counselor)
Wade King families who would like to request Holiday support please connect with me as soon as possible. We have a limited number of “spots” from our partners; Bellingham School Districts Family Support Services, Public Schools Foundation, Community Agencies, and Community Members. You can email me your name, family size, phone number with “Holiday Support” in the subject line - Jaymie.Wakefield@Bellinghamschools.org
Families who wish to offer Holiday support please drop off gift cards in the main office. You may also send in your child’s backpack, simply email alert teacher, or the counselor. Please select gift cards in increments of $25 / $50 from Fred Meyer, Target, or Walmart.
All gift cards will need to be collected by November 30th to allow for enough time to disperse to our families. We sincerely thank you for your support!
I hear you! Thank you to all the families who are reaching out! It is so important I know how things are going for your student in yet another unique year. And it is so helpful for me to be able to honestly say to parents, “you are not the only one.” You are not the only one noticing your student seems extra tired, extra moody or just….extra! They are building stamina again this year after 1.5 years of learning that looked and felt so different. I hear the relief in your voice when you learn that other families are feeling this year too. It has me wondering how I can better facilitate these conversations between you, the parents. I would like to know how to best support your efforts to connect with one another. I have a quick 1 minute survey at this link that could give me some insight. Feel free to take the brief survey that can help guide me in knowing what to offer parents as a way to connect with one another. And keep reaching out! Jaymie.wakefield@Bellinghamschools.org
