The Giver
By Lois Lowry
Background
The Giver is about a boy, Jonas, who lives in a strictly controlled society. When he turns twelve, he is assigned the job to be The Giver by the Elders. This job allows Jonas to remember things that happened in the past, but his job ends up taking him much farther than what is expected. Breaking the rules of the community, Jonas goes against the Elders and saves the town's people from something special that was taken away from them long ago.
