Virtue focus of the month: Responsibility
At home, support our community focus by talking about, modeling, and recognizing the following behaviors that align with this month's virtue. We are very much working on teaching and recognizing ways to communicate and problem-solve effectively. If you click here, you can access the slide decks for classroom counseling lessons that have been taught this month. (Slides will be updated after they are shared with students.)
use non-aggressive language to express oneself
verbalize and present my ideas, values, and needs to others
take responsibility for words and actions and acknowledge the impact of behavior on the community
Inclement Weather
If this week is any indicator of what the rest of the winter will be like...please note this very important detail! Normally, CPCS follows the school system guidance for inclement weather days. However, IF THERE IS A 2 HOUR DELAY ON A DAY WHEN CPCS HAS AN EARLY DISMISSAL, CPCS WILL NOT DISMISS EARLY. We will have a regular 3:00 dismissal, and students should report to school at the time indicated by the SMCPS inclement weather announcement. Stay safe and warm!
We Need Tennis Balls
We are in need of tennis balls again - used or new. We use these to cover our chair and table legs so our floors don't get scratch. Please drop them off to the main office.
Check out our Nurse's Office Custom Gift List on Amazon
Our nurse's office is in need of boys' underwear in XS (4-5), Small ( 6-7) and boys and girls clothing in sizes XS (4-5). We highly recommend all Kindergarten parents provide a change of weather-appropriate clothing.

CHESAPEAKE CHARTER SCHOOL ALLIANCE
1 - 2 - 3 -4 We Declare a Penny War
Penny Wars will begin on February 5th and last the entire week. We need many hands to make this event happen and happen fairly. The main task is bucket-watching during student recess. Volunteers are to ensure students place coins and money INTO buckets only. Students are not allowed to reach into the buckets in an attempt to take money or unfairly sabotage other classes.
-We are looking for one volunteer to stay the entire shift on each day. Second volunteer slots are broken down into smaller shifts.
-Bucket Watching will take place near the school garden.
-Volunteers on the last shift will help bring all buckets inside to the Main Office.
Mrs. Jolliver, our Fundraising Chair, will be leading this event. You will see her continuously throughout the day during the Recess Bucket Watch. She will help set up and break down the bucket table each day. In the event of rain or any concerns or issues, please contact her directly.
There are also evening shifts available! Additional hands are needed to help our fundraising team count and tally up the bucket totals and winners for each day.
**SMCPS-Volunteer approvals are NOT needed for evening shifts.

CPCS Annual Chili Bingo Night on Friday, February 9, 2014
Please join us for CPCS's Annual Chili Bingo Night on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM in the gym. This is a popular potluck-style event followed by some fun rounds of Bingo (with prizes!) for our CPCS families to help us close out Penny Wars week and ALL are welcome! Doors will open at 5:30PM, and the class buckets will be available for last ditch support efforts to add your pennies and sabotage the other classes!
Cost is $5/person or $25/family. FREE for families who have committed to the Annual Pledge. Have not committed, but ready to support now? Please follow the link HERE to complete the annual pledge form.
Please use the links below to RSVP and sign up to bring a chili or another item. In addition to the potluck, there will be a chili cookoff contest...one category for adults and another category for kids. Contestants will be competing for the GOLDEN SPOON and bragging rights for the next year :) (Please note: Chilis entered into the contest will only be available for tasting and not a part of our potluck line). We need other items in addition to the chili, so please use the sign up below to let us know what you'll bring. Can't bring an item? No worries! We'd love to have all of our families attend.
