Advisory Parent Contact
By Wednesday, October 23, we would like for everyone to have placed parent contact for all of your advisory students. The primary purpose of the contact is simply to introduce yourself as their child's advisor, that you are excited to work with them, etc (many have already done this).
The secondary purpose is to discuss attendance for any of your advisory students who have two or more unexcused absences ("U" code under Skyward Advisor Access > Attendance).
This contact can come in the form of a call or email. For attendance contacts, please attempt to get a response (if no email response, try phone).
Anytime you speak to a parent about attendance, email janeen.harris@ccstn.org so she can document the contact for the tier program.
Sample Attendance Talking Points
- Encourage turning in notes for any unexcused absences (Doctor, Dentist, Parent Day, etc.)
- 5 "parent" days per year allowed - they just need to turn in a note to the office
- For excessive absences, ask if there is anything you or the school can do to help.
- If they have questions about attendance, refer them to Janeen Harris or pg. 6-8 of the SHS Student Handbook
September Positive Phone Call Challenge
Even though September is over, that doesn't mean the phone calls need to stop. Keep reaching out to parents weekly to address both positive things you see their child doing and communicate any behavior struggles you need their help with.
