CIS Weekly Updates

2022-2023 #1 August 22-26

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

I can't believe we have started week #2 of the 2022-2023 school year! Our first two days went very well as we all got acclimated to being back in the building. There is a lot of routines being practiced at this time of the year and it will enable our students to feel comfortable with navigating their day throughout the school year. We urge you to reach out if you have any questions that we can help you with along the journey of 5th and 6th grade!

Tomorrow we will start our Chromebook Challenge with students. The goal of this friendly competition is to help boost our students' confidence with being able to come home each night and charge their Chromebook properly. If students bring their Chromebook to school with it charged (95%+) then they will help their grade level with the competition. The challenge will end on 8/31.

Lastly, we have Open House coming up on Thursday. 5th Grade Open House is from 5:45-7:00 and 6th Grade Open House is from 7:15-8:30. Please plan to come to the auditorium for the first 15 minutes for a presentation.

Have a GREAT week!

Brandon Cobb, Principal

REMIND MESSAGES

We will use REMIND for much of our school communications. We get our contact information from your updated Final Forms. If you notice that you aren't receiving our REMIND messages then please let us know by calling our office at 330-335-1480. You can also download the app and have more options for messaging (text vs. email).

CIS BAND

A message from our band teacher, Mr. Hastings..

6th Grade: Please click here to enroll your child in Band for the 2022-2023 school year.

5th Grade: Please note that band sign-ups for 5th Grade will activate following Open House on Thursday, August 25. This gives your child an opportunity to try out a couple of instruments at school this week before making a decision. You can click here to enroll your child in Band for the 2022-2023 school year following Open House.

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING PTO

For just $5 you can pledge your support to our CIS PTO. The money will be used for teacher requests and our PTO has been instrumental each year in helping us to provide a positive and impactful educational experience for students and staff. Last year, our PTO made a big push to add technology opportunities and many new books to our school! Here is the PTO FLYER.

CHROMEBOOK CHALLENGE - 5th Grade vs. 6th Grade

We are starting a friendly challenge tomorrow. We are going to track the percentage of students, in 5th grade and 6th grade, that bring their Chromebook each day and have it charged to at least 95%. This competition will last 7 days and the winning grade level will win a prize! Students should charge their Chromebooks nightly and this is a way to boost our sense of urgency and help students to get into a routine.

COVID-19 & ILLNESS AT CIS

Our school district will follow these recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health.

ODH recommends schools follow general isolation procedures from the CDC for confirmed cases. If students or staff feel sick or suspect they might have COVID-19, they should stay home and take a rapid test. If positive, students and staff should stay home from school for at least 5 days and longer if necessary until fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. Additionally, after isolation ends, students and staff should continue to take precautions as they resume normal activities by wearing a mask for 5 days (or after two negative tests 48 hours apart).

FAMILY VACATIONS - NOTE FROM MR. COBB

Please remember that if your child is going to miss school because of a vacation, then you will need PRIOR approval. Please email me in advance and request that the absence be listed as "excused". For more information regarding attendance please check out the Student Absence Brochure.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAYS & SPIRIT FRIDAYS

Students (and staff) are encouraged to wear motivational shirts on Mondays and Red/White (Grizzly or CIS) gear on Fridays. This will be encouraged throughout the school year along with additional spirit days throughout the school year.

CELL PHONES

Students are permitted to bring their cell phones to school. However, they need to put them away when they enter the building and store them in their lockers during the day. Once they exit the building, at the end of the day, then they are permitted to use them. During the school day our students shouldn't use their cell phones to contact home if they aren't feeling well. Students are encouraged to go to the clinic if they aren't feeling well. This helps us keep track of students and prevents the office from being surprised when a parent/guardian shows up unexpectedly.

CONTACTING OUR ATTENDANCE DESK

Our attendance clerk, Laura Long, is the contact person for calling off your student and any change of dismissal plans throughout the day. Her email address is llong@wadsworthschools.org and the phone number to her desk is 330-335-1481. We recommend you let the attendance desk/teacher know when your student is going to be absent, leaving early or arriving late. Letting us know when your child is going to leave early allows us to be prepared for when you arrive. Thank you for your efforts!
