From 1942 to 1944, Robinson served as second lieutenant in the United States Army. In 1944, Robinson started playing baseball professionally. He first played for the Negro Leagues. Then he was chosen by Branch Rickey, vice president with the Brooklyn Dodgers, to help integrate major league. In 1945, Jackie joined the all white Montreal Royals, a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
