Message from the Principal
Dear Whittier Parents/Guardians,
A couple of things I want to make sure to bring to your attention. This week we started our Attendance March Madness. Classes are in a healthy competition with each other; the class with the highest attendance percentage will move forward to the next round. Please help your child's class by ensuring your student is here everyday! Please read below for more details.
PTO's Craft and Vendor Fair is coming up next Saturday, March 9th from 9:00am-3:00pm. Please like the Whittier Craft and Vendor Fair Event on FB and share it with friends: Whittier Craft and Vendor Fair Event. Hope to see you all there!
Lastly, below is a parent survey that allows us to receive feedback from you. As I have mentioned in the past, your partnership with us is essential in providing your child an amazing educational experience here at Whittier. Please take a few minutes and let your voices be heard! Please see below!
Thank you for staying connected and engaged! Remind your student to read, read, read! :)

PARENTS PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE
As a school community of learners, we wanted to make parents aware of inappropriate content that has been popping up on children’s Youtube videos on their personal devices this week. We haven’t received any evidence of this at Whittier, but these have been reported in other elementary schools in our district. We are sending this message to you now because preemptively addressing something with your children is always better.
Children’s videos on Youtube seem to have embedded links, pictures, or statements instructing them to harm themselves. For more information and tips for parents, please see this link from National Online Safety.
As the National Online Safety program suggests, we are encouraging parents to have a conversation with your children about internet safety. You could say something like, “There are some scary things that pop up on phones and tablets and if you ever see something like that, come get me.'”
If your children report anything concerning that pops up on the school-issued device, please contact your child’s teacher right away.
Thank you for being partners in helping to keep our children safe while using the internet.
DR. SEUSS SPIRIT WEEK-March 4th through March 8th
TITLE ONE SCHOOL- PLEASE HELP!
PARENTS: Take a few minutes to fill out the following survey BY FRIDAY, MARCH 1 and your child's grade level will get credit towards earning a pizza party. The grade level with the highest percentage of returned surveys will earn a pizza party.
If you were at our Family Game Night, your child has already been counted toward his/her grade level total, so you do NOT need to complete this.
Good luck to all the grade levels!
Parent Buzz from Mrs. Green
Did you hear about the March Madness attendance competition that started this week? Please make sure your child is here every day to have a chance to advance as a class in our attendance brackets to win a class prize. Why is daily attendance important? 64% of kids in Kindergarten who have good attendance (less than 10 days) can read on grade level after 3rd Grade whereas only 17% of kids who are chronically absent (missed 18+ days) in Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be on grade level in 3rd Grade. Big difference. If you need assistance getting your child to school or having issues related to getting them to Whittier on time every day, please contact Mary Green at 262-970-1180!
