Upcoming Comprehensive Planning Training for Focus and Priority Schools
The PA Planning Team wanted to inform you of the upcoming Comprehensive Planning trainings being offered. These optional sessions are intended for all Focus and Priority Schools and will be delivered in a series of 5 sessions. You may come to 1 or all 5 sessions. We will begin the series with a face-to-face session where we share our overarching goal of using the web application to build an action plan that focuses on Closing the Achievement Gap. In this session, we will provide a general overview of the rest of the series which includes root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes for student achievement concerns, and data and systems analysis using resources within the web application. Our series will end with a look into the PA Planning Resource Bank to provide you with strategies and resources that you can use throughout your planning process. Our focus will be on the main components within the web application that support school improvement focused Action Plans.

Increasing Communication
Updated Web Application - Gifted Components
Updates have been made to the Comprehensive Planning web application to meet additional gifted program components. Prior to submitting your plan through the web application, your entity will need to complete these sections to comply with the state requirements. The addition was made to the Core Foundations>Safe and Supportive Schools section. Prior to this update, there were 2 questions for LEAs to complete. The new update includes 4 questions that will need to be answered in a narrative format. A snapshot of the update is below and will also appear in your online web application.
As a reminder, this section is only required for School Districts and optional for IUs, CTCs and Charter Schools.
Screening, Evaluating and Programming for Gifted Students
1. Describe your entity’s awareness activities conducted annually to inform the public of the gifted education services and programs offered (newspaper, student handbooks, school website, etc.)
2. Describe your entity’s process for locating students who are thought to be gifted and may be in need of specially designed instruction(screening).
3. Describe your entity’s procedures for determining eligibility (through multiple criteria) and need (based on academic strength) for potentially mentally gifted students (evaluation).
4. Describe the gifted programs*being offered that provide opportunities for acceleration, enrichment or both. *The word "programs" refers to the continuum of services, not one particular option.
*The requirements for a student's Gifted Individualized Education Plan can be found in the Pennsylvania Code (22 Pa Code §16.32)*
