Drop off/Pick up Procedures - Be SAFE in the Front Loop
Now that our front loop is completed, I would like to share with you our expectations and procedures to ensure everyone's safety. Please watch the video above that includes this information. Each family received a Name Card with our expectations on the back. Please display this name sign on the passenger side of your dashboard when you come to pick up your student(s). Please be courteous and aware of others during pick up, especially pedestrians in the crosswalk! Please do not use cell phones while in the front loop to prevent distracted driving for the safety of our students. If you need to park and come into the school, please use our crosswalk. Please do not park in the pick-up/drop-off lane.
In addition, students should not be dropped off before 8:30 in the morning unless they are here for a supervised activity or Kids & Co. The school’s doors open at 8:45 and we have limited supervision and space in the lobby for students to wait for school to begin. If you have been dropping off prior to 8:30, please make different arrangements. For students who are waiting in the front lobby between 8:30 – 8:45, our expectations are that they are reading or doing homework quietly.
Pedestrians in the Crosswalks
Another SAFETY measure I wanted to remind parents about is to yield for pedestrians in the crosswalks. Also, please do not PARK or STOP in the crosswalks. We have many students who walk to school everyday and cross busy Woodridge Road. There is also a crosswalk from the interior parking to the main doors. Please yield for our students, and all pedestrians, while they are waiting in the crosswalk.

If you have any questions throughout the year please email Amy Bisbee, PTO President ax@visi.com
Lifetouch Picture Day
Picture day is Tuesday, September 18. Please return the envelope with your package selection and money before Tuesday. Classroom teachers will give their students the envelope to give to the photographer when their picture is taken. You can also order online before picture day. The information is included in the flyer listed under our Electronic Backpack. Any student who does not have a completed envelope, including payment, at the time their picture is taken, will not be able to order a package until retake day on October 26.
Late Start Day – Thursday, September 20
Our first Late Start of the year occurs this upcoming Thursday. All Hopkins’ transportation will run their regular routes starting exactly two hours late. School begins at 10:58 am. In Hopkins, we use these Late Starts for professional development for our teachers.
Individual Student MCA Results
Individual student MCA Results, for students in grades 3-5 during the 2017/2018 school year, are being sent home via mail. They should arrive within the next week. These results are one of many pieces of data that we use to determine student growth and learning. If you have any questions about your child’s scores, please contact your child’s teacher or me at 952-988-5201.
Student Directory Orders
By filling it out, it gives the PTO permission to print additional student information in a directory organized by family and classroom. All students will be listed unless they opt out. Please return the form by Thursday, September 20. Directories cost $5 to purchase and will be distributed in October to those who ordered them.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are special people at Glen Lake! Whether you have an hour during the year or several hours a week, your volunteer time is essential.
This month we are looking for volunteers to help during art class, the Kindergarten Call Night, and Copy Cats.
Please visit the Glen Lake Elementary website to see all the volunteer positions we have available!
