Volleyball Information
Dear St. John Nepomuk Volleyball Families,
I am happy to share that I have created a Volleyball only communication group. I will utilize this to send updates throughout the season as needed. I will also be able to send text message updates from our RenWeb Parent Alert system in the event there are game cancellations. You may also check the CGSAA website (linked below) for timely information on game status.
As we look to start the season, I wanted to share important information with you regarding concussion and cardiac arrest and Play Like a Champion Today. While it is our hope that we are not faced with the situation of cardiac arrest or concussion, I want to make certain our coaches and parents are well informed should signs or symptoms occur. The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City requires that coaches are trained and parents are supplied with information and complete an acknowledgement form. I have linked training information and general information below. I am also sending home paper copies with student athletes today. Please return the acknowledgement form no later that Friday, September 14. This is also the deadline for coaches to complete the online trainer videos and submit certificates of completion. In the event coaches don't have a printer, you may screenshot and email to me.
PLACT information is included for general parent information as well as the RSVP for training on Sep. 29 if you are interested. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Have a wonderful season and thank you to our fabulous volunteer coaches for making this all possible!
In Christ,
Natalie Johnson
Principal
Blessing on the Season
Loving God, you give each of us special gifts and You call us to serve You and one another in particular ways. Help us to do the very best we can sharing our talents and skills. Bless our teams and season. When we have the opportunity to excel, encourage us toward excellence in Heart, Mind and Body. When challenges and obstacles come our way, remind us to fulfill our responsibilities and commitment to TEAM.
Help us, Loving God, to always do our best at whatever we do. We pray this in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

Play Like a Champion Today Information
Coaching as Ministry Educational Program
Character Education Through Sports
Calling all CGSAA Coaches!
Play Like a Champion Today provides leadership in an effort to renew the culture of youth sport. It does this by educating ethically responsible sport leaders. These coaches, parents, and athletic administrators in turn will reach millions of young people.
Crafted by leaders in the fields of sports psychology, coaching education, Catholic theology, and moral development, Play Like a Champion Today is centered around the principles of justice, tolerance, respect & solidarity. The program is supported by research on character development & faith formation in sports. From it's origins at the University of Notre Dame to collaboration across the country. Play Like a Champion is designed to bring the best athlete-centered practices to your community.
Play Like a Champion Today deals with tough sport issues and supports schools by promoting:
- Sports Building Character in Athletes & Families
- Building Teams as Moral Communities
- Champion-Centered Best Coaching Practices
- Sportsmanship
- Responsible Decision-Making
- The Spirituality of Sport
- The GROW Approach to Athlete Motivation
The CGSAA requires that all coaches attend the PLACT training. There will be two designated PLACT training dates scheduled each year with the intent to offer them corresponding with the two primary seasons of sports annually within the CGSAA. The inaugural training will be conducted by PLACT Master Trainers from Notre Dame. Subsequent trainings will be led by local certified trainers trained by the PLACT Master Trainers from Notre Dame. Documentation of the date of the completed PLACT training will be recorded in the online database that is used to track completion of the Safe Environment training.
ALL returning coaches (head) from the 2017-18 school year for Volleyball, Soccer and Basketball must have completed the training prior to the beginning of their sport’s season to be eligible as a coach for the 2018-2019 school year and subsequent school years. As new coaches volunteer, they will have until prior to their next season of coaching to complete the training. In theory, coaches have one year to complete the PLACT training requirement in order to remain coaching.
Coaches who are PLACT trained, yet receive infraction cards or technical fouls in the sport they coach, will be reviewed each season by the school principal, athletic director, CGSAA school representative, (and CGSAA officers as needed) to determine what actions to be taken and the coaching eligibility for future seasons.
The Catholic Grade School Athletic Association (CGSAA) of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City believes that by participating in this training and implementing both what is learned in the session and what is contained in the associated manual, coaches will be empowered in their effectiveness beyond the technical aspects of sports, enhancing their ability to create and maintain the positive environment that will GROW their youth participants.
