Letter to Students and Parents, October 2015
Students and parents, October 23, 2015
We have three more research projects this year, one each 9 weeks. There is an option for students to complete their projects. Students may elect to join the JCL (Junior Classical League), also known as Latin Club, and select a contest category to study and attend the Area Convention February 20 at Antonian High School. If they do so, competing in their selected contest(s), they will be excused from the research project for the 2nd 9 weeks.
Each student must select an academic contest and/or a Creative Arts contest (Oratory or Dramatic Interpretation) to study and compete in. In addition a student may sign up for and compete in a Classical Civilation Contest for additional points (costume and art)but this is not required, only the academic or creative arts contest is required.
I will provide students with study material, either in print or online. Students are expected to study their subject on a weekly basis as they are getting credit for a research project.
Each student will be given a pre test in their contest category about 3 weeks prior to the Area Convention (end of January). This grade will be the project grade for the 3rd 9 weeks. Student must attend the Area Convention and compete in their field to receive credit for the research project. Students not attending will not be exempt from the research project. They will be expected to complete the project for the 3rd 9 weeks.
JCL Dues are $30 per year. This includes a Club T shirt, a ticket to the Area B Convention, a ticket for the National Latin Exam, State and National JCL memberships, and Latin Honor Society patches, pins, and certificates. You may not know, but we have our own Honor Society for those students in JCL/Latin Club who have maintained an A average.
Scholarships are available upon request. I will begin collecting Club dues on Monday, October 26. For more information see our class website or visit www.tsjcl.org.
maximas gratias ago,
Magister Pope
