Election Day School Counselor Event
November 6, 2018 - Save the Date!
The Oakland Counseling Association in partnership with Oakland Schools is excited to offer our annual Election Day professional learning event on November 6th. This year's event features Danielle Duarte, a protégé from the Trish Hatch school counseling tree. The event will be held at Walsh College in Troy. More details, along with registration information will come out as the school year starts.
As is always the case with this event, we want to make a strong statement that school counselor specific professional learning is a necessity. With that in mind, we'd like to encourage as many school counselors to attend as we can fit it the room!

A Snapshot of the Day's Professional Learning...
School counselors are leaders within schools as they implement prevention and intervention services to support the diverse needs of students. A Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports (MTMDSS) guides this work in three domains – academic, college and career, and social/emotional – to provide core instruction and data-driven interventions for students. This interactive presentation will help participants evaluate the school counseling program at their site or district within a MTMDSS to a) ensure all students receive developmentally appropriate instruction, b) maximize student achievement to prepare students for post-secondary success, and c) increase the social and behavioral competencies of students. The session will provide additional focus on Tier 1 School Counseling Core Curriculum Classroom Lessons to ensure that all students gain the attitudes, knowledge, and skills to support their academic achievement, social/emotional development, and college and career readiness. Just as teachers provide interactive lessons with classroom management and engagement strategies, so too do school counselors! Participants will gain tools to design, teach, and evaluate K-12 classroom lessons as well as strategies to advocate for their appropriate role as leaders implementing a comprehensive school counseling program within a Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports.
