What Have We Been Learning?
Reading Workshop
This week, students are reading a book called "Pop's Bridge". In this story, we are practicing the skill of comparing and contrasting. Students are looking to find similarities and differences among characters and stories. Students have enjoyed using Pixar to learn more about making an inference.
Math Workshop
We have started Unit 2 this week. Students have been working on solving number stories. We have used the CUBES acronym to help us. In addition, students have worked on some Halloween number stories and crafts!
Writing Workshop
Students are now beginning to publish their personal narrative! We spent the end of our unit talking about where and how to make paragraphs in our writing. Students will share their writing at an upcoming Writing Harvest - stay tuned!
We have also started a small fiction story that involved creating our own monster! Students are learning about sensory images and ways to structure a story.
Science and Social Studies
This week, we continued to talk about the sun, moon, and the earth. We discussed important vocabulary such as orbit, rotation, revolve, lunar month, etc. We ended this week by making the moon phases with oreos! Students really enjoyed this delicious activity!
In Social Studies, we are learning about people from different countries and how to respect and appreciate our similarities and differences.
