NWEA - The FINAL Chapter!
All SMS students will take their third and final series of 2017-2018 NWEA tests next week. The assessment results will give us feedback on instruction and will help us make decisions about promotion, retention, and class section placement for next fall. Student performance on these exams also directly impact teacher evaluation. Thanks for giving us your absolute best on each test. Besides helping our school, your effort will also impact your access to the bonus app package right after spring break.
Engagement expectations: Listen to instructions. Don't rush. Persevere until the test ends (remember many of you will answer 50-53 questions!). Use scratch paper for calculations. Read thoroughly. Make your best, educated guess. Embrace the challenge! SHOW YOUR GROWTH!
Test Schedule:
Monday- Language Usage - 8:50-10:05 / iPad
Wednesday- Math - 8:45-10:15 / iPad
Thursday- Reading - 8:45-10:15 / iPad
SMS. Here. We GROW.

Hawaiian Dance Next Friday
The dance is for SMS students only. Students must attend school all day (don't go home sick and don't get removed from class!) Dress is casual - and school dress code rules apply. Students cannot wear tank tops or bikinis. Eighth graders will be admitted at the West Gym door. Sixth and seventh will be admitted at the Cafe/GR door. Pick up will be split to each side of the building. Any car picking up an 8th grader should pick up on the office side at 9:00. Any car not picking up an 8th grader will pick up on the cafe side. [So if your car is getting an 8th grader and two 6th graders, all of those students should be on the office side at 9:00 sharp!]
The parent chaperone meeting will begin at 6:15 sharp. We cannot have dances without parents so make sure you bring one Friday night!! Thanks!
Things to Do!
If you want to pre-order your SMS Yearbook, go online and order from the SMS website or turn in your $12 cash (or check to SMS) on Tuesday or Thursday next week. The absolute order deadline is Friday, March 23rd. No yearbooks will be available for purchase after they are delivered. Plan ahead. Order now!
If you want to submit one or more pieces of art for the SMS Talent and Art Show, fill out the art planning survey on the Canvas Community Page. Mrs. Owen would like to know how many artists will be participating and what types of art participants plan to submit! Also, pick up an Art Show info flyer in the office today!
If you want to play baseball or softball with the Scott County Little League (ages 3-14), pick up a flyer in the office. Registration dates and times are on the flyer.
A Matter of Time
Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend. Before you go to bed Saturday night, turn your clocks AHEAD one hour. We lose an hour of sleep! Remember Fall Back/Spring Ahead. It's spring so we move the clock forward!
Time is running out for this quarter. Our grading period officially ends next Friday, March 16th. Is your academic life in order? Are all things complete and submitted? Does Harmony look right? Grading Period report cards will be created on Tuesday, March 20th.
Spring Sports - Are you in Eventlink?
If you are in baseball, girls tennis, golf, softball, or track, you need to make sure your parents and guardians add your sports calendars on Eventlink. Open "Manage Calendars" and add both the SPORT and the SPORT PRACTICE calendars. The calendars include different information. Example: The GOLF calendar includes golf meet info. The GOLF PRACTICE includes practice info as well as messages from the coach. If you have any questions about Eventlink, call Mr. Smith!
