March is National Nutrition Month
National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign celebrated annually in March. This observance was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Key Messages:
- Include a variety of healthful foods from all of the food groups on a regular basis.
- Be mindful of portion sizes. Eat and drink the amount that’s right for you, as MyPlate encourages us to do.
- Find activities that you enjoy and be physically active most days of the week.
Visit the link above for the National Nutrition Month Celebration Toolkit.

National History Day Competition
Maryland History Day 2018 State Contest
Saturday, April 28, 2018
University of Maryland, Baltimore County: 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD 21250
Maryland Humanities invites you to serve as a judge at the 2018 Maryland History Day competition where 700 students will showcase their History Day projects focused on the theme of "Conflict and Compromise in History."
Each year more than 27,000 middle and high school students in classrooms throughout Maryland immerse themselves in in-depth research and create original documentaries, exhibits, performances, research papers, or websites exploring a breadth of historical topics within an annual theme.
As they progress through competitions at the school, district, state, and national levels, students rely on volunteers like you to evaluate their projects and help them improve skills they have developed throughout the process.
Judges include humanities scholars, teachers, librarians, and museum professionals, as well as other volunteers who want to support students in this exciting learning experience. You can play an important role by volunteering as a History Day judge – reviewing student projects, interviewing contestants, selecting the winners to advance to the national contest, and providing constructive feedback.
To sign up to judge at the state contest, please visit
Other History Day Volunteer Opportunities
Maryland History Day also needs volunteers to help with logistics at the state contest and to provide online feedback through Electronic Review of projects as students prepare for the next level of competition. Sign up for these opportunities here.

Professional Responsibility - REMINDERS
- Please check your main office mailbox and your email at least twice each day.
- All On-Cycle teachers, please begin uploading your 4E artifacts into MyPPS.
- Share all testing data with your students using the Student Data Collection Sheet
- Please use the Bus Number Google Sheet at dismissal each day and show on the board for students. Daily Bus Number List
- Sign-in each morning when you arrive in your respective front office.
- Duty Posts in the morning are critical. If you cannot be at your duty post, please notify someone to replace you or contact your Grade Level Administrator.
- When students are a minute late - UNLESS THERE IS A HALL SWEEP - please accept the student and mark them tardy. We have too many students walking the halls looking for passes and missing instruction.
- Hand sanitizer is ruining our floors! Please be mindful that sanitizer should be used over the sink and not on the floors.
- As we prepare for Spring Break, please remove any food items from your rooms and refrigerators. Also, take this opportunity to wipe off counter tops and throw away unwanted items. Thank you.
i Ready is Our $30,000 Investment in Personalized Learning
Instructional Usage: As you prepare for the PARCC assessment, students’ i-Ready personalized lesson paths are more important than ever. These lessons help students fill gaps in their learning and make grade-level content much more accessible. Increasing the time students spend on i-Ready Online Instruction can be a great way to meet students where they are and provide them with the differentiated instruction they need.
At this point in the year, your teachers may also wish to strategically use Extra Lessons in i-Ready to reinforce specific skills. Remember that a students’ automatic lesson path is designed to fill in gaps which is key in making grade-level content accessible. Therefore, if you wish to use Extra Lessons, it is important to do so sparingly and to make sure that students are still receiving sufficient time in their lesson path.Click here for the steps to add extra lessons.

MARCH WICOR STRATEGY: Critical Thinking & Inquiry Driven Learning - Ms. Sonia March
Attached you will find inquiry information and materials to help you apply the inquiry driven concept in your lessons and class instruction. I have plenty more where this came from. So, don't hesitate to ask!
-The Inquiry Tips document will explain inquiry and give suggestions at the bottom as to how to implement it this month.
-Elementary Teachers have an attachment providing suggestions as well. Feel free to use and modify as you see fit.
-We will be asking for your feedback as to how you've implemented this concept toward the end of the month.
-We are looking for you all to have fun, be inventive and creative with these monthly concepts. Any handouts provided do not have to be used as is. It is a supportive option for you to use in any way you'd like in order to help drive instruction and create a space for fresh innovation in your classrooms.
-Please contact myself or Mrs. Nanton for any support needed. We will be happy to help.
FYI...Listen out for our Wednesday WICOR announcements!

Week 3: Reduce & Reuse
This week we will be reusing recycled materials and incorporating Art Integration across the curricula. Each grade level is being asked to collect their assigned material beforehand and think about what they can construct with it.
The construction will take place in their Science class this week.
A gallery walk will take place so that all students can see the creations of each grade level.
Administration will judge the final products and award one winning grade level from upper and lower campus. Their creation will be displayed in the main office.
