This week the lady Vikings traveled to Johnson City to take on the Eagles and wrap up district play.
The 7th grade A team lost only one game in district play this season, and it was to the Johnson City Eagles the very first game of the season. Our girls were eager to answer that loss and they did just that! They defeated the Eagles in three matches bringing their record for the season to 7-1 and seeded first going in to the district tournament on Saturday... nice job ladies!!

8th grade (Coach Moeller)
On Wednesday, the Lady Viking 8th grade teams traveled to Johnson City for our last district match up of the season before the district tournament on Saturday in Lago Vista.
The 8th grade Gold team spent the week prepping for the district tournament this Saturday and used this game against JC to practice our mechanics and teamwork. We won the first serve coin flip. In the first set, we came out firing, putting up a quick 13-2 score with help of some great serving rallies from Esther Long and Taylor Koett. The momentum swung a bit after some hard fought points that didn't fall in our favor. The Eagles came back to beat us 25-22. In the 2nd set, a few side outs from serves put the game in their control. We fought back, point for point, but ultimately let them have the set, 18-25. In the 2 set loss, our mechanics were sound and we got lots of great offensive and defensive rotations in the books. We gave Johnson City a great game, but saved our best game against them for this weekend at the district tournament. The Lady Vikings have been improving ten-fold each week, and will be peaking on Saturday, just in time to make our trek to the District Championship. Our first game is at 9am at the high school against Gateway Prep. Please come out and support us!
The 8th grade Blue team had one last game to win to finish the season undefeated in district play! Great serves was the theme of the night for the Lady Vikings. Lago won the serve and Cali Navarro started us off to a strong start by serving 6 points in a row. Grace Coldicott followed her lead and served 6 points in a row on the next rotation. Leah Coldicott also added 6 points in a row to the scoreboard. We almost let a comfortable lead go, but held fast through the set and finished 25-23 for the win. In the second set, our Vikings didn't even let the Eagles see double digits. After another strong 6 serves in a row from Cali Navarro and a couple of back and forth points, Cassie McKinney led us to the win and the undefeated title by serving 12 points in a row to finish the set 25-8.
The Blue team finished the season 5-0, unbeaten by their district opponents. Congrats ladies, what an awesome achievement!
Tournament Update...
The Lago Vista Lady Vikings hosted the Middle School District 25-AAA Volleyball Tournament this weekend at the high school gym.
The 7th grade Lady Viking Volleyball team was the 1st seed headed into the tournament and had a bye in the first round. They played their first game against Blanco. After a landslide win by the Vikings in the 1st set, Blanco found a way to win back the 2nd set. After a few great passes and volleys, the Lady Vikings won in 3 to move on to the championship game against Ingram. Lago Vista brought the heat in the first set and easily took down the Warriors. Missed serves plagued both teams in the 2nd set, and the score stayed tight up until the very end when Ingram made a few serves at the right time to win the set, forcing a 3rd set. It was another battle of a set with some great volleys and offensive looks for both sides. Lead changes in this game were plentiful. Ingram tried to pull away, but an 8 point serving rally from Gina Chiappone brought the Vikings back within striking distance. Ingram ended up with the win, 25-23. Lago Vista finished the season ranked 2nd place overall in District 25-AAA volleyball! Great season ladies! A few highlights:
Jaycie Greenlees stepped up to have a presence on the net and had more hits than she's had all season! Gina Chiappone had a strong night serving and on defense/digs. Sarah Long and Emma Vincent were unstoppable in the back row passing serves, and had great hits throughout the day. All of the girls played great and contributed their best effort. Great job ladies!
The 8th grade Gold team kicked off the day at 9am in the main gym against district rival Gateway Prep. Lago Vista intended to take back a win against the Gators since they won the match up in the regular season. The Vikings stepped up to the challenge and came out firing in the first set. Lots of missed serves for Gateway helped us jump out to a quick lead. and 7 serves in a row from Aryana Wallace led Lago Vista to a 25-12 win. In the 2nd set, Gateway fixed their serving and put a little more pressure on us. They started to pull away but the Lady Vikings fought back and found themselves playing point for point. After some great volleys, defensive stands, and a late point surge to take the lead, Lago Vista fell short, losing 22-25. In the 3rd set, the Vikings and the Gators worked their way up the scoreboard, staying within a 2 point margin of each other the entire time. Missed serves hurt the momentum of the game a bit for the Vikings, but a late push gave the Vikings some life and they closed a 6 point gap to take the lead. A serving run by Gateway put the score at 21-24. Ultimately, the Gators would win the set 22-25.
Lago Vista moved into the consolation bracket and played their final game of the tournament and season at 3pm against Florence. This game was for the Consolation Championship, and Lago Vista easily took it in 2 sets, winning 25-14 and 25-13. Serving rallies from Taylor Koett and Ary Wallace led the way, along with a beast performance on the net from Jade Press with 2 hard kills. Lago Vista received a Consolation Championship plaque to top off a great season. Even though we didn't get as many wins as we wanted, the ladies really found their groove in the last few weeks of the season and the change was evident in their attitudes and presence on the court. It was such an honor to watch these young ladies blossom and grow throughout the season, playing each game better than their last, no matter what the scoreboard showed. I can't wait to see them play at the high school level. Great job and good luck ladies! Thank you for trusting me to be your coach.
Leading Stats for the Tournament:
Serving: Aryana Wallace- 26 serves
Bumps: Esther Long 44, Haylee Horn, 34, Aryana Wallace 31
Sets: Esther Long 42, Savanna Wolff 23o

7 th Grade Football vs. Randolph MS 10/20/16
The 7th grade football team last night played the Randolph Ro-hawks. In the first quarter, the first score of the night was by Logan Parsons. From there on the defense held the
Hawks to fewer than ten first downs. Cheyenne LeBlanc, Dax Lawhon, Parsons, Jaden Hester, Jase Chapa, Wyatt Forbes and many other defensive linemen led the defense all night. In the second quarter after some hard running buy Austin Giehl, who juked out a few Ro-Hawk defenders, just coming a few yards short of the goal line. Jeremy Hill ran in the 4-yard touchdown to put the Vikings up 14-0. Also to get his first score of the year was Arthur Munoz with a reception of 5 yards from Jeremy Hill. Hill then connected with Ambrose in the back corner of the endzone for the 2pt. conversion. Vikings 22 & Ro-Hawks 0. It may have been an extremely windy night but the Vikings managed to still throw the ball a little bit here and there. The next touchdown would be Giehl on a scamper around the right end just inside the pylon for the TD. Vikings 28 – Ro-Hawks 0. The Ro-Hawks then take the next possession and drive the length of the field to only fumble back to the Vikings. Lago Vista then struggled with a couple of snaps and gave-up a safety to the Ro-Hawks. Vikings 28 & Randolph 2. The special teams players, and our kicker Jacob Moreno made our victory possible. Colby Croxton, Mikey D’Ambrose, Hayden Chapman and Wyatt Forbes played defense very effectively all night. The game ended with the Vikings Victorious and they are now Overall 5-1 / District 3-0.
8 th Grade vs. Randolph
Yesterday evening the 8th grade football team went up against the Randolph Ro-Hawks. In the first quarter Randolph came down and scored quickly on a sweep play, but we held them to just six points without the two-point conversion. Josh Alexander and Lanes Powers were both on the stop. In the first quarter the Vikings put up their own eight points with the run by Lane powers and then a two-point conversion by Lane powers. The defense was led on the outside but David Rague & Noah Yetley. Behind them was a great secondary with Blaze Seeley, Noah Hernandez, and Trace Sweet. After half-time Lago Vista came out with a very energized drive that went down-the- field full of pass receptions by Noah Yetley, Noah Hernandez, and Blaze Seely. The drive ended in a touchdown by Noah Hernandez
from Josh Alexander from 30 yards. Josh Alexander meets up with Noah Hernandez again in the end zone after a 35 yards completion to end the third quarter. The last touchdown of the game was on an option keep by Josh Alexander from 55 yards out, only made possible by Noah Yetly’s, Blaze Seely’s & Dillon Amstutz blocks on the outside. In the fourth quarter hard-hitting tackles made by Luke Pounds, Dylan Amstutz, Cade Oliver, and Hunter
Phillips helped secure the victory. The Vikings move to 3-0 in Ditstrict play and have a 4-2 overall record.
The 7 th & 8 th grade Vikings will continue their fight for the District Championship’s next week at home against the Bulldogs of Marion. Thank you for your support and we will
see you next week at Sisemore Field for our last home game of the season. Game times are 5:00 PM – 7 th grade; 6:30 PM – 8 th grade.
