Principal's Letter
Greetings Lake Windward Elementary Families,
Can you believe we are wrapping up the first quarter of the school year? The first couple of months have gone by quickly, but you know what they say..."time flies when you're having fun!" The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for us as a school!
This upcoming weekend will be a long one. Students are off Friday, October 11th-Monday, October 14th. We will welcome students back on Tuesday, October 15th. I hope LWE families enjoy the well deserved break after the first quarter of hard work!
Thank you so much to all of the families who supported our Book Fair as well as our PTO sponsored Fall Festival. Our fall book fair generated the highest sales ever which totaled over $16,000. Our school will receive 25% of these sales! Another great way to support the school is to purchase your child's school pictures. The company who does our school pictures gives LWE 50% of all sales. All of the proceeds from the Book Fair as well as school pictures go to support various needs at our school.
Enjoy this week of much cooler temperatures! I know I am!
Warm regards,
Julie Morris
Our students are busy learning and growing!
2nd graders observing egg drops and making predictions
5th graders reading and taking notes on their novels
5th graders discovering the effects of salt on ice
We celebrated our wonderful custodians, Ms. Ali & Mr. Rosny on National Custodian Appreciation Day!
IOWA Testing
Later this month our students in third and fifth grade will take the Iowa test. The Iowa test (formerly called ITBS) is a nationally normed assessment that gives us information about how our students are scoring in comparison to other students across the country.
Third graders will take the test on October 21, 22, and 23. Fifth graders will take the test
on October 21, 22, 23 and 24. The IOWA assessment will be administered online as it was last year. It’s important to remember that Lake Windward is in ‘testing mode’ during the week of October 21-25; so there are no classroom visitors, media center volunteers, lunch visitors, etc. If you have any questions regarding the IOWA test, please email Heather Farrar at farrar@fultonschools.org.

Notes from our KSU iTeach Coach
Classroom Highlights!
Fourth and Fifth Grades have started using Microsoft Teams as a digital hub to increase student collaboration and independence. Teachers host academic conversations, deliver assignments and engage students with virtual content.
How Can You Help?
Review the concept of Digital Citizenship! Students working on Microsoft Teams use the space for an extension of the classroom. For example: conversations should be positive, productive and on task.
Ask your students about how they've used Microsoft Teams in their classrooms!
