The Finish Line!
I do want you to know that my husband, a firefighter in Charlotte, contracted COVID-19 while at work a few weeks ago, and then I was lucky enough to catch it from him! Luckily, we have experienced very mild symptoms (headache, body ache, fatigue, coughing, stomach upset, lack of taste and smell) and have been able to recover at home well. We are now both on our way to being ourselves again and for that, we are so thankful. It could have been much worse. So your patience and understanding over the past couple of weeks especially, has meant a lot to me. We were scared of having exposed family members who are very high risk, but everyone is doing fine, so we are counting our blessings again! I will do my best to wrap up the year as planned, but hope you understand if I cancel a Zoom or if I am a bit slower in responding. I seem to tire easily, but I am trying very hard to keep up.
Third and fourth graders will not receive final progress reports, but 5th graders will receive theirs along with their homeroom report cards. Certificates for qualification for the Duke TIP program, participation in WordMasters and/or Math Olympiad, or Science Bowl will also be placed in the bags for student pick up.
I learned this morning of the passing of my most favorite, extremely talented teacher who taught me in both 3rd and 4th grades. She was 94 and I have kept in touch, taking her out to lunch and visiting her regularly over the years. I have told stories of her to my own students many times. If you are familiar with the Sandlapper song for South Carolinians, she is the author of that as well as many other books on SC history and songs and plays. She was amazing. I hope your children will love me and visit me and as I grow old the way I have loved her. Please take care of yourselves and your families and know how very much all of you mean to me. I am eternally grateful for my wonderful CPES families!
We are in the home stretch! Have a great week!
~with a grateful heart,
Mrs. McNay
