Farewell to Mrs. Christen Mishura
Jr./Sr. School Counselor
We Bid Farewell
I'd like to offer Mrs. Mishura the best of wishes as she moves on. I'm sure all of her future endeavors will be as successful as her year at Lakeland. The little elementary students she will be counseling are lucky to have such a dynamic and caring person coming to them! I hope you will all take a moment to offer Mrs. Mishura kind words of encouragement in the next couple of days!
Warmest Regards,
Mrs. deQuevedo

News to Share!
Good afternoon, everyone! I am sending this newsletter because I have some news to share, and I wanted to reach as many people as possible.
As some of you may have already heard, I have accepted a school counseling position at Mid Valley. I know that this may come as a surprise as my time at Lakeland has been short, and I assure you that it was not an easy decision to make. My family and I are building a home that will be minutes away from the school, and that is where my children are going to attend. I just felt like it was an opportunity that came my way for a reason, and I couldn't turn it down.
My last day here at Lakeland will be Friday, December 13th, and I already have a new school counselor to tell you about! His name is Mr. Watters, and he has several years of experience. I am not sure when he will be starting, but I do know that he is so excited to start and get to know you all!
Between now and December 13th, please continue to email me and to stop in to talk about anything you would like to. I love seeing all of you and talking with you about school, college plans, and life in general is my most favorite thing about this job! If anyone has question about me leaving, also know that you can stop in at any time and we can talk through whatever we need to. I look forward to talking and meeting with all of you just like we have been all year so far!
Mrs. Mishura
Hi there!
My name is Christen Mishura and I am the new school counselor at Lakeland Jr./Sr. High School. I am so happy to be here and can't wait to get to know all of you and for you to get to know me!
Just some quick info about me: I graduated from Valley View High School and went on to graduate from Misericordia University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I moved on to the University of Scranton for my Master's Degree in School Counseling. From there, I had some long-term substitute positions in all different levels of school counseling - kindergarten all the way up to helping seniors with their career and college paths. Finally, I landed a permanent position at Danville Middle School (which is way down the line, past Bloomsburg) as one of two school counselors there. That is where I spent my last 9 years, and I loved my time there!
My husband is an elementary teacher in another school district close to Lakeland, so we relocated near Wilkes-Barre to cut down on my commute - which was still around an hour each way following that move - and put my husband's ride to work at around 35 minutes. All of that was okay, until we had our kids. My daughter, Hadley, is 3 years old and my son, Colten, will be 2 very soon (they're the little darlings in my pic above!). My husband and I started to feel the distance between our schools and our kids became a challenge, so I began the search for a job closer to where we both grew up. When I was offered this job at Lakeland, I was so excited! I am so glad that my kids can grow up where I grew up, and that I get to be closer to so many friends and family members.
While this is a great opportunity for my family and I to have much shorter drives to work and will allow us to have more time in our day together, it was important to me to find a school counseling position that lined up with what I was looking for professionally. I have 9 years spent in the world of middle school and though I loved it and became skilled at working that that age group, I felt like I need something new. This is why I am so looking forward to working in the High School and learning some new things - but still getting to work with junior high students. This, to me, is the best of both worlds! Transitions can be hard. I know that some of this is going to be new to me and also new to you, but I know that this will be a wonderful experience!
When I get some free time, which isn't often because I have two tiny humans that keep me busy in so many crazy ways, I love to read, go shopping, and hang out with friends.
I will be out and about as much as possible, but please stop in to my office and introduce yourself! I look forward to the rest of the year and getting to know everyone!
Thank You!
