A Letter From Mrs. Barkley
Dear Parents,
As we have been working through our mathematics units on multiplication and division, students have been reviewing their multiplication tables and taking daily, one-minute quizzes on their facts. Students who can recall their facts quickly are better able to solve more complicated problems, and so far this has shown! All of our students are improving steadily, and this is the last week that we will be completing these morning quizzes.
To celebrate our achievement of being multiplication masters, we will be sharing in an ice cream social together on Friday. Students were told of this treat at the beginning of the unit, and they also know that what they can share in is dependent on which facts they have mastered. Until now, however, they did not know which facts earned which parts of the treat - that way, no one would give up after just one scoop!
Following this letter is what was decided on for rewards.
Please make sure your child continues to study their facts this week, and even for the rest of the year as we resort back to these important numbers in our studies! This is the SignUp Genius of the items we are still needing if you would like to contribute. As always, feel free to send me an email at chelsiebarkley@mgsd.k12.nc.us if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued involvement in your child’s education!
Sincerely,
Chelsie Barkley
Important Information
- In Reading, we have begun our Holidays Around the World project. Your student has access to the link that outlines all expectations to this project. Here is the link for you to look over as well. Please look over the expectations for this project with your student, sign and return the piece of paper sent home today. Know that they will be expected to turn in a "physical project", outlined on the webpage on Wednesday, December 17th.
- The next Outer Banks trip payment of $50 (or $100 if parent is attending) is due Wednesday, December 17th.
- Your student has access to their Google Mail accounts. They are allowed to ONLY email TEACHERS about SCHOOL-RELATED questions or concerns. Please know this is an avenue they can use to keep in contact with teachers, but not to use with other students or anyone else.
- Finally, Mrs. Barkley and Ms. Johnson would like to celebrate the holidays with a Holiday party and some gifts for our classes. We would like to make gift bags for the students. We will be sending out a SignUp Genius for party items later on, but we would really appreciate any donations of small gifts toward our gift bags. There are 44 students in both classes. We plan to have our celebration Wednesday, December 17th. Thank you for your help and support!
