The Bill of Rights
On September 25, 1789, Congress presented the Bill of Rights. The states ratified the ten amendments to the Constitution that they saw as incredibly important. They took effect on December 15, 1791. In my opinion, amendments one, five, and nine, are the most important amendments in the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment is extremely important because it states the basic rights that all people should have including freedom of religion, speech, the press; the right to gather in a peaceful manner, and the right to disagree with decisions made by the government. Also, the Fifth Amendment is a significant right because it states that one's life, liberty, or property cannot be taken unless decided by a court. This amendment ensures that the government cannot take advantage of citizens or abuse their power. Lastly, the Ninth Amendment stresses that American citizens have more rights than stated in the Bill of Rights. This way we know that our rights are not limited to the ones stated in the ten amendments, so, again, the government cannot take advantage of citizens. The Bill of Rights was a great addition to the Constitution, so that citizens know their rights.
Conclusion
The citizens of the United States are lucky to have such a marvelous form of national government running their country. With our government system all branches and states have an equal amount of power. Also, each citizen has rights that prevent the government from taking advantage of them. Lastly, our Constitution, the law of the land, is a guideline for the government to help them be as fair as possible to the people. Overall, the United States government is an amazing government to have, and I definitely want to keep it. Zombies, I hope that I have made it clear to you that Americans need the government that they have.
