Fall Athletics

Fall athletic teams have begun official practices. We have Cheer, Cross Country for both boys and girls, Football, Boys Soccer, and Girls Soccer, and Volleyball. There is still time for athletes to go out for a team. Contact the athletic office for more information if your student-athlete is interested in trying out for a team.

We will have our first home games the week of August 30th. Check out the schedules that are on the OSAA website.

Athletic Clearance

Athletes must clear for sports. There are four main parts to athletic clearance:

  1. Verifications. Athletes need to verify enrollment and/or residence within the district. They also must verify that they are academically eligible. All freshmen are academically eligible for Fall sports.
  2. Athletes must complete a health history form and athletes need a current sports physical. This is good for two years. The School-Based Health Center at CHS is offering physicals on August 13th and August 17th.
  3. here are forms to fill out online in RankOne. This includes insurance information, contact information, and athletic policies, etc.
  4. Then athletes need to pay their fees.

Sports tryouts began on August 16th and athletes must be cleared to participate.

Here is a link to the athletics website where more in-depth information can be found.

Office Hours

Our main office is now open, Monday through Friday from 7 am - 3:30 pm.

Masks Required

Masks are required indoors at school. They are not required outdoors for PE and for some other specific activities such as playing an instrument. If a student forgets a mask, we will provide disposable masks for their use. This is for the safety of everyone in our building and community.

Returning Chromebooks and Textbooks

Please return any Chromebooks or textbooks that you have from last year. The office is open and ready to accept them. The Chromebooks need to be updated in order to work. We will need the textbooks for classes this year.

Freshman Orientation

We have a Freshman Orientation Day scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th. Freshmen will get tee shirts, have a barbeque lunch, and get to meet all of their teachers. The busses will run on their regular schedule. We will have some games and other fun activities to get to know your classmates and your teachers. We're looking forward to meeting all the freshmen on Tuesday, September 7th.

School Supply List

Here is a link to the School Supply list for freshmen. This will give good guidance for basic supplies at all grade levels.

Regular Attendance and Arrival Time

Regular attendance is one of the keys to success at school. Research shows that those students who attend school 90% or more of the time (miss less than 18 days per year) are more likely to graduate on time and excel in school.

This year we want to make sure that you are healthy when you are attending school and stay home when you're sick. This way students and staff will not spread colds, COVID, or other illnesses to each other.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday school starts at 8:10 am. It starts at 9:10 am on Wednesdays in order to provide collaboration time for teachers. Students should plan on arriving at the building by 8:00 am or 9:00 am on Wednesdays to get to their first class on time.

The dropoff line is long at the main entrance to the school. Students can be dropped off at either entrance to ease congestion.

New Bell Schedule

We are returning to a 7 - period day for the 2021 - 2022 School year. We have also added our advisory class to the schedule once a week. The daily schedules are linked here for the coming year.

Online Registration

Please submit your student's education verification ParentVue to update any and all information. You can find the portal on the district website at the following link.

Schedules

Your schedule will become visible to you the week of August 30th. We will have two days for fixing schedules that have an issue, such as the wrong math class during the week of August 30th.

Additional Safety Measures to prevent the spread of COVID

We are taking additional safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Every classroom will be equipped with a HEPA filter. Teachers will open windows in classrooms if possible to increase ventilation. Our ventilation systems have increased the amount of air that is circulating in the classrooms. Everyone is required to wear a mask in classrooms and communal spaces within the school. The School-Based Health Center offers free COVID-19 tests. We will have additional outdoor seating for meals. We still have an isolation space (Care Room) to take care of students if COVID symptoms appear during the school day. We will also have plenty of handwashing and hand sanitizer to keep from spreading COVID-19 and other germs. We are looking forward to a healthy school year.

Vaccination Clinics

The School-Based Health Center will offer free COVID-19 vaccination clinics every Thursday beginning September 9th. COVID vaccinations will be available for students and parents.

Opportunity for Input: Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan

This year, the Oregon Department of Education is requiring districts to have a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan. Centennial School District is seeking your feedback on its draft plan at https://www.csd28j.org/continuityofservicesplan on the following: mental health needs, communicable disease management plan, isolation plan, mitigation strategies, and accommodations for children with disabilities. The comment period is open through Monday, August 23, 5:00 p.m. We will use this feedback to inform revisions to the plan.

To view the DRAFT plan and provide feedback, visit https://www.csd28j.org/continuityofservicesplan.

CHS School Calendar

If you are wondering when school starts or what days we have conferences or spring break, here is the CHS Calendar for the 21 -22 school year.

Volunteers Needed

We have two areas where we could use volunteers to start the year.

We could use additional parents or guardians on Site Council. We meet on the third Thursday of the month from 7:30 - 8:00 am. Participants can join via Zoom if that makes it easier to join.

Gardeners needed - We will be expanding our areas to eat outside. We have ordered many new picnic tables for students to sit at. Our courtyards need some weeding and sprucing up to make them really pleasant places to eat.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Site council or gardening in the courtyards, please contact our Lead Secretary Emily Aleman.

Job Openings at CHS

We have some positions open to start the year. We have two openings for Educational Assistants who work in classrooms supporting students with disabilities and other students. There is tremendous variety in this work and our Educational Assistants make a huge contribution to the success of our students. Both of these positions are for 6.5 hours per day.

We also have an opening for a 5-hour custodial position.

These are not the only positions that we have open and there are additional positions open districtwide. Please check out the district website if you are interested in applying for any of these positions please follow this link to "Join Our Team."
