From the Principal:
As you know, since January, we have been implementing a new behavior program, called "Mustang Pride." This has been a resetting of classroom and school-wide rules that help students to see the positive consequences of good behavior choices, and unpleasant consequences of poor behavior choices (think time, call home, miss 5 minutes recess, etc.). Our staff has seen a very positive improvement in the overall behavior and attitudes of students. Classrooms are celebrating with "mystery motivators" such as dress up days, stuffed animal parties, extra recess time, and most importantly, more time spent on learning! We have seen a decrease in behavior referrals, too!
We would now like to offer a parenting class based on this same concept, which is to clearly state the desired behaviors, and show kids what happens when you do them, and what happens if you don't. We will have information, resources, and even a book to share if you attend the sessions. The parenting class will be held at Midland in March. If you are interested, please call me at 253-298-4501 to let me know of dates and times that work best for you. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dawson

Message from the Nurse
Just a reminder that state law prohibits students bringing any medication, including OTC (Over The Counter) meds to school.
- Students NEVER bring medications; an adult must bring to the health room.
- ALL medications MUST have a Health Care Provider/Doctor order here to allow the administering by a nurse or trained staff.
- Any addition questions, please call our Nurse, Mrs. Stippich at (253)298-4523.
Attendance Moment:
Lifetime habits about responsibility towards work begin to be established in elementary school.(Parent going to work=parent job, student going to school=student job).
WE CAN’T TEACH CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT HERE.
Please help your student by encouraging on-time, every day attendance.
It’s Time to Refer 3rd and 4th Grade Students for the 2020-2021 Highly Capable Student Program!
Do you have a student who…
- learns easily and quickly?
- thinks up unusual ways to solve hard problems?
- has a clever sense of humor?
- dislikes doing the same thing over and over?
- thinks logically and wants things to make sense?
- is open to new ideas?
- is persistent and wants to keep trying with difficult tasks?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, please refer your student to test for the Highly Capable Student Program. Please complete a Project Excel Program Referral packet online (https://bit.ly/2RRmKGb) by 4:00pm, March 13th. Testing materials are ordered the next day and late registrations may not be able to be accommodated.
Please be aware that students who live within the district boundaries will receive first consideration. Out-of-district students who attend Franklin Pierce schools must be granted another year’s release and will be placed in the program after all qualifying in-district students have been served.
If you have any questions, please contact Annette Burnett by phone at (253) 298-3062 or by email at aburnett@fpschools.org.
