Stephen Fuller Austin

Stephen Fuller Austin was born in 1793 to Moses and Mary Austin. At eleven Stephen went away to school and went to Transylvania College in Kentucky. At twenty-one Stephen was elected in the Territorial Legislature for Missouri. In 1821 after Moses brought 300 families to Texas he was attacked by Native Americans and fell ill later he died and left his grant to Stephen. After fifteen years of leading people Austin had an untimely death in 1836 it is said that right before he died he said ," The independence of Texas is recognized! Cant you see these papers?" after he died Samuel Houston said, " The Father of Texas is no more, the first pioneer of the wilderness has departed."
We honor Stephen F Austin becouse of the sacrifice he gave becouse there would probably be a Mexican flag at this school stilll today. Many ranching families in Texas today owe there roots to Austin and his travels. Stephen has been honored in many ways one is there have been many schools named after him.
