IB Update
It is Program Choice season in Cabarrus County Schools District. Staff was on hand at the Program Choice Fair Oct. 11th to share information about the IB Primary Years Programme with families interested in WHES. We met about 100 families who are considering our school and the IB PYP for their children. We will hold an open house for prospective parents Nov. 6th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. If you have friends or family interested in WHES, please invite them to attend. CCS is requesting all families in a Program Choice school to complete an online renewal. Visit the CCS website and click on Program Choice. If WHES is not your home school, you MUST complete the online renewal to save your seat for next year. If you have children starting school next year and WHES is not your home school, you MUST complete a Program Choice application by Dec. 20th. Applications will be online and active starting Nov. 6th. IB is expanding in CCS. Winkler Middle School and Irvin Elementary are now IB Candidate Schools and construction has just started on the new high school on Weddington Road. This high school will offer the IB programme and is scheduled to open in 2019-2020.

Change for Change- Collecting Spare Change to Plant Trees at WHES
This year Weddington Hills Elementary School has added a new class to the Special Areas rotation called Global Inquiry and Design. The aim of all IB programs is to “develop internationally minded people, who recognize their common humanity, shared guardianship of the planet, and help to make the world a more peaceful place.” In our Global Inquiry and Design classes, we will be exploring the theme of Helping the Planet. All second and third grade students will be participating in lessons that explore: why we need trees, which tree species in North America are threatened, the disappearing rain forest of South America, and the global impact of deforestation.
The IB cycle of inquiry-based learning encourages all students to REFLECT and ACT on what they have learned. Our classes’ action will involve planting trees on our school’s campus to help improve the health of the ecosystem here at Weddington Hills. Students will be making an air-dried change bowl which they will bring home to collect spare change for several weeks. All money is by donation only, and donations are not required. All money collected will be used to purchase tree(s) to plant on the WHES campus.
Thank you for your support and please stay involved in our progress by following us on Instagram: WHESglobaldesign .
Money will be collected by: November 30
